  1. After 2004 update all audio has reduced volume and sounds muffled.

    Hello,

I hope this is the right place to post this. I updated from 1909 to 2004 and after everything had finished I noticed my audio was broken. All audio has reduced volume and sounds muffled.

I checked all sound-related settings but they all were the same as in 1909. And changing them didn't have any effect on the problem. So after three hours of searching and trying I gave up and reverted back to 1909. Everything was immediatly working again.

In an older posting, which I found through Google, someone named alokm_msft asked a user for details about his system. Therefore I'm posting my details here as well.

    1. If you remember, what was the last build this scenario was working for you? Answer: Windows 10 Pro, Version 1909, OS Build 18363.900

    2. Your PC's Specs (Windows version, audio driver/card, motherboard, graphics card, Bluetooth speakers, audio peripherals used, etc.). Answer: Intel Core 9900KF, AsRock Z390 Pro4, 32GB RAM (2x16GB) nVidia RTX 2070 Super, Sound Blaster Audigy Fx. Driver version SBAF_CD_L13_1_00_07 (the latest and only one on their website, dated August 12th). The only things connected to the sound card is a Headphone and a Microphone. No Bluetooth devices. Nothing is overclocked.

    3. When exactly you encountered the audio issue (on upgrade, after reboot, etc.)? Answer: Right after the Windows 10 2004 Update. Even after several reboots.

    4. If you have Spatial Audio turned on when you encountered the issue (The most common way to turn this on is to right click the speaker icon in the taskbar, go into the "Spatial sound" sub-menu, and change it from "Off" to any other technology, such as "Windows Sonic for Headphones"). Answer: Spatial sound is off and always has been off.

    5. Did you encounter this issue while playing a game? If so, what game title(s) did you encounter this in? / Did this issue also occur in non-game applications? Answer: All software is affected, not only games.

    6. What were the exact symptoms? Answer: All audio has reduced volume and sounds muffled.

    7. Reproduce the scenario using feedback hub, whether it still occurs or not, and share the feedback link with me. Answer: Feedback Hub doesn't open. Even if it did, as I wrote, I'm already back to 1909.

  2. IDT High Definition Audio Codec MUFFLED SOUND with speakers/headphones, Windows 10

    Method 1 results:

Repair suggested was increase the audio device volume because the audio device volume might be too low to hear, which is not the problem.

    Method 2:

I do not think IDT provides drivers and was unable to find any on their website.

Is the sound muffled because the 2011 drivers are no longer compatible with Windows 10?

What about when there is no sound through speakers/headphones with the generic audio driver?

Thank you for your help and patience,

    Philippe

  3. Windows 10- 64 - Realtek audio - Verizon Messenger app (from app store) sounds are reducing my system/music volume.

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

The volume of the audio might reduce automatically, if Loudness Equalization is enabled in audio enhancements.

Since when are you facing this issue?

I suggest you to follow the methods mentioned below and check if that helps:

    Method 1:
Disable the Loudness Equalization from audio enhancements settings.

    1. Right-click on the volume icon on the taskbar.
    2. Select Sounds option from the list.
    3. Click on the Playback tab.
    4. Now right-click on the Speakers and select Properties from the list.
    5. Click on the Enhancements tab.
    6. Uncheck Loudness Equalization option.

Method 2: If you still face the issue, we can try running the
Audio Troubleshooter. Follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Tap on 'Windows + I' on the keyboard.
    2. Click on 'Update & Security' option.
    3. Select 'Troubleshoot' option.
    4. Now click on the 'Playing Audio' from the list and 'Run the troubleshooter'.

    Hope it helps.

  4. After 2004 update all audio has reduced volume and sounds muffled.

No sound while playing audio and video files.

    Hi,

I appreciate if you could answer to a few questions to narrow down to the issue.

    • Which is the application that you are using to play the files?
    • Did you try the same on a different player?
    • Did you perform any troubleshooting steps?
As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to check if the volume is set low or in mute state in Volume Mixer.

    • Right click on sound icon.
    • Open Volume Mixer check for the application that you are playing the files with and increase the volume and check.
If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to run “Playing audio” troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

Follow these Steps to run Playing Audio Troubleshooter in Windows 10.

    1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.

    2. Select Troubleshooting.

    3. Select View all on the top left corner.

    4. Click on Playing audio.

    Thank you.
