It may be free but unlike for example Windows 8 it is very much tied to your current hardware.

When Windows 7 came out I was able to purchase a fully flexible retail copy at a reduced price.

Not if what they are counting is the installations via the Get Windows 10 app.

  6. Considering that there won't be a Windows 11, 10's market share will surpass 7. Watch how quickly MSFT will close the OEM channels to anything but 10.

Yes but many of these sales were for computers pre installed with windows. I would like to see how many changed or went back to an old OS.

I know many people who brought a computer with Win 8/8.1 and erased and installed an OEM Win 7.

    Windows 10 Tracking Added to Windows 7 & 8

Those avoiding Windows 10 for privacy reasons will not be pleased if they have been blindly installing Optional Updates in Windows 7 and 8.

KB308019 - "This package updates the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to existing devices. This service provides benefits from the latest version of Windows to systems that have not yet upgraded"

KB3075249 - "This update adds telemetry points to the User Account Control (UAC) feature to collect information on elevations that come from low integrity levels."

These updates can be uninstalled and hidden but recent actions on the part of Microsoft have lost the trust of many.

    - The "Get Windows 10" update KB3030583 was originally offered as an Optional update and was then escalated to an Important update to force install it on the unwary.

    - Windows 10 Home cannot refuse updates.

    - Microsoft has said they will provide explanations of what updates do only when "they" consider it significant.

    - Windows Insiders had their privacy setting reset when they installed b10525

Instead of crowing over 53 million upgrades to Windows 10 Microsoft should be more concerned with why 947 million are saying NO!

I noticed my 8.1 was booting noticeably slower of late. Found it was the two updates you referenced, uninstalled them and back to the boot time I had previously.

And 3.1 was my first also. *Smile

Am I imagining things? Seriously, these two updates caused much slower boot time on my laptop.
