Windows 10: After a night's sleep

A friend's desktop computer has not been staying in sleep mode over night. At least he would discover the fans running if he got up during the night. A restart would be required in the morning.
I requested that he revise his power options to have sleep be NEVER in both choices.
He had been using a key on his keyboard to initiate sleep and I asked him to use the menu choice.
The sleep condition went through the night for the first time since the Nov upgrade .
But he reported the moment he touched the keyboard for a wake up the fans came on at a very high speed for about 10 seconds then slowed down, computer made a beep and Windows 10 proceeded to start up.
This is not a normal 'wake from sleep' activity is it?

He had no issues with this sleep routine previous to the Nov 1506 upgrade. He used the media download to upgrade.
An sfc /scannow resulted in no errors and all updates are in place at this time.

The plan is to do a repair install -in place with an iso which I burned to a cd.
1. I am wondering what power settings to adjust after this repair install.
2. Will a short sleep test on the spot be the same as an overnight time frame ?
2a. If the same condition (fans strong, beep before loading Windows) results with a short sleep then what to check?

I installed Windows 10 yesterday on my HP Envy20. I tried to put it in sleep mode for the night but it kept coming out of sleep mode after about 2 minutes until i finally had to just turn off the computer. Any ideas how I can get it to stay in sleep mode

Computer is sleeping too early. Both Settings and Power Options are correctly set and it should not sleep until 1 hour inactivity. It sleeps every few minutes anyway. Started today after shutdown last night and persists even after windows update and restart.

 

I neglected to include that the initial Windows 10 was a clean install and there is minimal software installed at the moment.

 

Hi, there are numerous reports of sleep issues, and many threads on the topic on this forum and elsewhere. Some people need one solution, some another so it's worth doing some research and documenting what you've tried.

You can try this from a CMD prompt:
powercfg /waketimers
and see if there are any pointers.

 

I have done the research ...but the 'friend' has not applied the recommendations. I wearied of hearing the winging and whining so offered to have the ailing box come to my house. If stuff gets beyond me, I'm not that proud; I'll head to the repair shop*Smile
(At this point, the simple correction would be to stop using "Sleep" ....but habits are hard to break, I suspect)

Its an odd factor that operation was fine until the Nov upgrade.
My best friend is the search engine and the disk imaging prog. *chuckle
