  1. After a restart my computer is booting to a different drive that also has windows

After a restart my computer is now booting to my C drive which has a clean windows install from an update error a year ago. My normal boot drive with windows 10 is my E drive. When I Ctrl R and opened msconfig only the C drive is listed as a drive with a copy of windows on it. Although the C drive works all my data and programs are running off the E drive windows. I really dont want to have to reinstall everything.

    Thanks,

    Jesse

    :)

    Maxtor Hard Drive Beep

    Maxtor drive beeps

Have a similiar situation using a DiamondMax Plus 8, 20GB Mfg Date 4/15/03. Drive used as a second system drive. Drive is recognized in boot menu but not in drive list. Drive is always connected. Computer started locking up for several seconds at a time. Chkdsk on drives and couldn't find that drive. Removed drive from bay to make sure connections were ok and heard the beeping. Shutdown and restart and never got to windows screen. Restarted several times then saw drive in boot menu and Windows loaded but Maxtor not in drive menu. When recognized in boot menu, computer will start but beeps and is not found.

Tried kicking it real hard but no improvement. Any suggestions?

    Hi,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I suggest you to run System Maintenance Troubleshooter.
Follow these steps to run System Maintenance troubleshooter:

    • Press Windows key + W and type troubleshooting.
    • Select Troubleshooting.
    • Select View all on the top left corner.
    • Click System Maintenance.
    • Follow the on-screen instruction to run the troubleshooter.
I suggest you to place the computer in Clean boot
    and check.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting steps, refer to the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer
    to Normal startup mode.

With regards to USB flash drive as its not working with different computers as well, you may need to get in touch with the USB flash drive manufacturer.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.
