Windows 10: After activation of Windows 10 failed, product key is not being recognized anymore!

I have been using Windows 10 Home unactivated for a while now and found out that I can get a free license due to the fact that I'm a student. Went through getting the product key, and when received I went ahead to activate. Seemed to work, windows said that it needed to update some stuff. Error appeared saying that it cannot connect to the Internet and that I should try later all while I was watching Youtube in the background. Put the product key in one more time, "The product key you entered didn't work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one. 0x800f0805". I am sure it is a valid key, since the first time it got recognized as valid but failed the activation because of "no Internet connection". I have tried to use Get Help, but no real person has contacted me, and when I choose the option "call me back", I get another error.

Activate windows 10 after re-installing (I have lost my product key)

I own a Lenovo T430 laptop. In 2017, I installed Windows 10 using my original Windows 7 product key. Unfortunately, I cannot find that product key anymore. I need to re-install windows 10. Will it be automatically activated after the installation, if I skip the step of asking the product key during the installation?

In my opinion, I believe that my laptop will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers and this will not be a problem. Is that true?

If not, please suggest me a solution or a workaround.

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to respond to my query. I have to say some of the suggestions assume a tech capability beyond me.

I think I will find the original receipt, go back to the shop, and ask them for the Product Key, then try again. I suspect it was an unauthorized copy. Maybe that will work.

According to my computer, Windows7 is activated and is a genuine product. But when I attempt to download W10, it does not recognize the 25 digit Product Key. I don't know what to do.
