    >After MoBo failure, clean install WIN 10 to 500 gb SSD as Drive C: only Separate SSD / partitioned HD for D:, E:, F: etc.

    >New Gigabyte MoBo GA-78LMT-USB3 R2 with SATA 0 port= C: drive SSD; SATA Port 1 = D: drive SSD; SATA Port 2 = E:, F:, G:, and H: partitions; SATA Port 3 = ASUS Optical Drive, all seen during scrolling post as IDE drives and in the BIOS. Not usable, not available in Explorer or Device Mgr.

    Registry for SATA Port 3 = [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Enum\PCIDE\IDEChannel\4&29a7b07f&0&1].

Noted that registry entry for SATA Port 2 is exactly the same as Port 3, keeping in mind that Port 2 = a partitioned X4 Seagate hard drive.

Since I believe above non-operability to be an OS problem:

Request advise procedure to install optical drive and/or correct registry entry for SATA Port 3, including confirm whether delete current entry and total substitute of suggested entry.

    Thank you

    r/s

Clean Install after upgrade, 32b Windows 10 pro to 64b Windows 10 Pro

    I've upgraded 4 x PCs to Windows 10 Pro - OK. 2 were 32b, 2 were 64b.

Can I now do a 64b clean install to the 32b Windows Pro upgraded PCs, reformat etc. under the terms of the upgrade?

I have made the 64b DVD ready ;-)

    Thanks.

  3. boot failure new everything wd ssd win10 pro

Whew, lots of info in your reply and I thank you for taking the time to post.

Much of what you suggest in your reply I have done. Keep in mind all hardware is new. Yesterday and today I removed the win 10 pro wd ssd drive and installed it in another pc also with an asus mb and amd ryzen processor and it appeared to work just fine.
Put it back in the new pc and the same problem reappeared after one time getting stuck on the asus screen then turned it off, wited, back on and the same issue again. grrrr. So I then made a new iso formatted the drive reinstalled it and booted to the new
iso on a usb drive reinstalling win 10 pro going through several restarts and updating and it worked perfect. Turned it off waited a few minutes turned it on again and could not even bring up the asus bios choices screen which shows before windows boots.
Tried new cables different sata plugs no boot. Un plugged the power from the wd ssd and plugged in the other ssd drive with Ubuntu and it booted to the bios option asus screen so I checked the bios to make sure it was still slow boot with all else still in
default positions and it was so I booted with Ubuntu and it worked fine. Did multiple restarts, off and on's with no issues. Tried the win 10 ssd and not even an asus bios screen. Tomorrow I will try the new win 10 pro ssd on another commuter to see if it
works ok if it does the issue must be connected with the mb or bios settings.

    What am I missing?

I've noticed the latest editions of win 10 pro have some of the lost features of win 7 back and that is great.

    Thanks for your help

After clean install WIN 10 Pro 64b to new SSD, ASUS Opt Dr DRW24B1ST-38 visible BIOS/CMOS,...

    Win 10 clean install question

    Hello everyone,

my brother in law has bought a new computer yesterday still with win 8.1 on it, which he'll be upgrading to windows 10. I'm guessing non pro edition. So far I've determined that if you want to do a clean install after the upgrade you don't use an updated productkey, rather microsoft registers somehow your hardware id and auto activates.

Now here's my worry, the computer isn't coming with an ssd, and I'm building that in tommorow, and I want to do the clean install on the ssd understandably.
My question is, will this alter the hardware ID in such a way that Win 10 won't activate anymore. I know there's a 30 day grace period to fix things, but I'd rather get everything right straight away.
I'm also wondering if I can just format the former system drive after win 10 has been activated on the SSD or if this will screw up some activation logging file or whatever other important stuff they've somehow left on the older installation.

If it doesnt activate it would mean I'd have to get into contact with microsofts help desk, which I reckon will be extremely hard to reach anyways, and my experience with them hasn't been great sofar.

Thanks in advance for any light shed on the matter. I'm sure more people are debating a form of this conundrum.
