Windows 10: After clicking "Change Product Key" in Microsoft activation in settings, the Settings app...

Hello all!I recently am facing this issue, where after clicking "Change Product Key" in system activation, the entire settings app freezes. and the only way to close the app is by closing window via task bar. I am considering upgrading my windows version but it's not letting me.I haven't tried any solutions yet aside from restarting my laptop I am not a professional windows user and couldn't find the right thread regarding this problem.I will be awaiting anyone's willing to help me. Motherboard product key does not match the one in settings?

At some point in time, someone changed the product key of the installed Windows 10 to:
W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX

This is the volume license product key for Windows 10 Pro and will not activate Windows except in a corporate environment where there is a KMS server present to activate the Windows 10 on the network.

You can try this to downgrade back to Windows 10 Home:


Open Registry Editor(WIN + R, type regedit, hit Enter)

Browse to key HKEY_Local Machine > Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion

Change EditionID to Home (double click EditionID, change value, click OK). In your case it should at the moment show Pro

Change ProductName to Windows 10 Home. In your case it should at the moment show Windows 10 Professional

Browse to key HKEY_Local Machine > Software > Wow6432Node > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion, change the same two values as in steps 3 and 4 above

Close the Registry Editor

Insert the Windows 10 Homeinstallation media, do an in-place upgrade by launching the setup from desktop (not booting with Windows 10 Home install media)

When asked, enter your validWindows 10 Home product key and select what to keep(settings, personal files and apps, only personal files or nothing)

Windows 10 Home in-place upgrade will be done now.

Reactivating Windows 11 after retrieving the motherboard key involves using the original product key or digital license associated with your system.

Here are the steps to reactivate Windows 11:

1. Open Settings:
   
   • Click on the Start button and select the gear icon to open "Settings."
     
2. Navigate to Update & Security:
   
   • In the Settings menu, click on "Update & Security."
     
3. Go to Activation:
   
   • In the left sidebar, select "Activation."
     
4. Enter Product Key:
   
   • If you have a product key, click on "Change product key" and enter the key when prompted.
     
5. Use Digital License:
   
   • If your Windows 11 was linked to your Microsoft account, you might see an option to troubleshoot and link your digital license. Click on this option and follow the prompts.
     
6. Restart Your Computer:
   
   • After entering the product key or linking your digital license, restart your computer.
     
7. Verification:
   
   • Go back to the Activation section in Settings to verify that Windows 11 is now activated.
     

 

Windows 10 will not activate Error code 0x803F7001

Possibly there can be the problem with Microsoft activation Server, so your Windows 10 is not activated. In this scenario, you need to wait and verify if it is the issue from Microsoft’s side. But if you are getting error code 0x803f7001, you can also try these steps:

1. Open Settings app. Then go to Update and security > Activation screen > Change product.
2. Type your Windows edition product key and click Next.
3. You’ll get We couldn’t activate Windows error message.
4. Retry steps 1-3 then type your 25-characters unique product key.
5. Wait for the process to complete, Windows 10 is activated.
