  1. After Creators Update - Won't boot with graphics card driver installed

As the title suggests, I allowed the creators update to install itself yesterday and now the computer will get stuck whilst booting. I took the graphics card out and used the onboard graphics and it then booted fine. Uninstalled the graphics drivers and rebooted with graphics card installed, ran fine. Went and got the latest drivers from nvidia, installed them then rebooted and now it's stuck with the screen shown in the video for the past few hours.

Not sure what to try next, only thing that comes to mind is take out graphics card again, back up everything and completely reinstall windows from the latest boot media.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Fall Creator's Update (1709) - second monitor has no signal after a cold boot, AMD driver

I have this exact same issue after installing Windows Fall Creator Update (1709). My Second Monitor does not work after a Cold Boot. I have to reset the Graphics Card with the Win+Ctrl+Shift+B shortcut to get it working.

I have the AMD graphics driver version is 8.970.100.9001. Is there a replacement driver available or another update to fix this?

    Thanks,

    Gary L

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Failure--Boot Loop

Clearly, there's an issue with the Fall Creators Update and some graphics cards.

I've spent several hours trying to fight the boot loop, to no avail.

My video card is an ATI Radeon HD3450 and this seems to be the issue.

Basically, after upgrading to Fall Creators Update, everything went fine, except that the screen resolution was not good because my PC was using a generic driver. I could update the driver, both with Windows Update and with another version found on AMD website.
Both drivers can be installed and everything seems to work fine, until I open a program or a website that uses the video card more intensively, and then I get a BSOD with the VIDEO DXGKRNL FATAL ERROR.

Another thing worth noticing is that once the correct driver for ATI Radeon HD3450 has been installed (8.970.100.9001 from 01/13/2015), the PC with Fall Creators Update won't boot until you can get to Safe Mode and uninstall this driver.

I managed to rollback to Windows 1703 and everything was fine again even with the same driver version for ATI Radeon HD3450, until I retried to update to 1709 just to be trapped in the same boot loop/BSOD loop.

For now, I'm returning to the previous version again as my PC has become unusable because of this bug.

Has anyone here been able to upgrade to 1709 with an ATI Radeon HD3450 graphics card?

Despite what I found here, the driver from 01/13/2015 does not work for me: No 1920x1080 resolution while using Windows 10 Solved - Page 7 - Windows 10 Forums

After Creators Update - Won't boot with graphics card driver installed

How did you uninstall the Nvidia drivers?
How did you reinstall the Nvidia drivers?

    Give this a try:
Uninstall all Nvidia drivers/softwareThe best way to do this is to uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from your computer's manufacturer or from the Nvidia website. If this is an Asus computer the computer manufacture approved drivers are preferred.
If you use the Nvidia website be sure the "clean install" box is checked and only install the Graphics driver and the PhysX driver.Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 17.0.6.7: Official Display Driver Uninstaller DDU Download

  5. Thanks for the reply, I uninstalled all drivers and this time clicked "clean install" and still have the same result. To uninstall I went through control panel (this time when installing the nvidia drivers it did report current versions for everything was not found, the first time the physx driver was just on an older version still.)

Am really quite unsure what to try next now other than a full clean install of windows which is a bit of a pain in the butt!

  6. Hi,

Since NVidia started installing Vulcan without notification I also remove it in programs and features first too.

Unless you have your files backed up or have an image consider other troubleshooting steps before a clean install.

You could uninstall the updates that were recently performed automatically by windows updates.

Check the integrity of the operating system and drive, check for any conflicting applications and even consider in place upgrade repair.
The in place upgrade repair will allow you to keep your files and applications while a new operating system is installed.
open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    1) sfc /scannow
    2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    3) chkdsk /scan
4)When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on copy > paste into the thread

    5) msconfig (in the pop up system configuration > move the dot from normal startup to selective startup > uncheck load startup items > click service tab > in left lower corner check hide all Microsoft services > in the lower right side click disable all > click apply or ok > do not reboot)
    6) taskmgr (in the pop up task manager > click on the start up tab > click on status so that the column sorts with enable rising to the top > right click on each row with enable and change to disable)
    7) shutdown /r (you will reboot the computer so that it is in clean boot)

Please post the results of scannow, restorehealth, and scan.
Evaluate the performance on your computer in clean boot.
How has the video performance changed? Is it better, worse, or the same?

    8) Do you have another graphics card or can you borrow one for a test?
    9) Try removing and re-seating your graphics card again.
    10) Make sure the fans are clear of any dust and try again.

  8. After Creators Update - Won't boot with graphics card driver installed

My sincerest thanks to both of you who replied and tried to help. I had backed up everything at the time of the last post and was so fed up with rebooting all the time that I just went with a fresh install, which was foolish. I had forgotten my old Windows 10 was from a free upgrade from my old Windows 8 install and wouldn't let me install with that serial number anymore so had to buy another!

Massively unimpressed with Windows 10 auto update and can't see myself letting it install a major update again any time soon but hugely impressed by the very helpful people on this forum!

Your welcome. Wished we could have helped more. If you had upgraded during the free period the digital license should allow you to clean install, replace the hard drive etc. It used to be product code but once you upgrade during the free period the digital license allows you to no longer remember the product code.

Also windows 10 may still be free: Here's how you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade | ZDNet

In any case I hope you perform the following steps with your new operating system:
    1) Create a restore point (the restore points by default are no longer assumed like they were with earlier versions)
    2) make an image of the drive using Macrium and make sure that the backup is on another drive. Then you should be able to boot and recover when there is a failure to boot.
    3) back up files to a second drive and or the cloud.

  10. Thank you so much, I'm a software developer / run my own business with my computer, have a new found respect for IT professionals now! No real losses to any data as it's all stored in code repositories but will definitely get restore points autocreating again before any update occurs as going to recovery options and seeing that there were no restore points was a little disheartening!
