Windows 10: after doing system restore, computer will not boot

summary:did system update 2 days ago most icons became genericcontacted Microsoft, was given instructions to uninstall update. performed accordingly but one of 3 would not uninstall still showed generic icons, but they worked did system restore with restore point earlier in the day before uninstall of update. system restore took quite a while but ended with error message that it did not complete. It noted anti-virus may be the causue so it was turned off clicked system restore again with same restore point it never went through the restore. I just had keyboard lit up with black screen. then sa

I cannot log in after doing a system restore

This usually happens if the system restore process is incomplete or due to corrupted files in Restore Point. I suggest you to try the following methods and check if it works for you.

Method 1:

Perform Automatic Repair using the Installation Media and check if it helps. This will help you find and repair damaged/missing files in the Operating System.

Follow the steps to perform Automatic repair from Windows 10 Installation Media:

• 
  Insert media such as (DVD or flash drive) and press F12 key and click on
  change default or other options which is at the bottom of the screen.
  
• 
  In the next screen click on troubleshoot option, this will display you different WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment) options to resolve issues with the computer when it is in no boot state.
  
• 
  Now Click on Automatic Repair, this will open up a Wizard which will automatically diagnose and repair issues with the computer startup.

Perform System Restore using the Installation Media and check if you are able to login to your computer.

Follow the steps to perform System Restore:

Windows 10 wont boot, repair, reset, or system restore

Hi,

The issue occurs due to an
unfinished update process which
corrupted the system files. We suggest that you try these troubleshooting
methods and run the update again:

Method 1:
Run SFC Scan.

To run an
SFC scan, follow these steps:

• 
  Run
  Command Prompt as Administrator.
  
• 
  Type
  sfc /scannow
  and hit
  Enter.
  

This will check and run an auto-repair on the issue.

Method 2:
Run DISM Tool.

After running the
SFC scan
and the issue still persist, run the
DISM
to check the system health and to try restoring the files. To run
DISM tool, follow these steps:

• 
  Run
  Command Prompt as Administrator.
  
• 
  Type the following command:
  
  • 
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /scanhealth
    
  • 
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    

NOTE:
This might take a while
to finish scanning.
Do not cancel.
