  1. After Game Exit or Changing Resolution/Refresh rate and back Windows is Laggy Until Restart

So this is really weird - I'm hoping there's some Microsoft devs lurking out there who might have an insight into the cause of this.

When I exit a full screen game or change the resolution or refresh rate - Even if I change it back, my context menus refresh slower and everything highlights slower until restart.

This happens on a fresh install of 2004. I even tried 1809, it happens without changing any settings or with nearly everything disabled. It happens with any video card drivers and tried two video cards.

It happens when overclocked or with default bios settings.

    I've updated the bios.

I've just built a Ryzen 3900X rig, Asus ROG STRIX X57-F Mobo, Trident-Z 16 G, Gigabyte 2080 Super Windforce OC, Kraken X63 and Raidmax 850W AI Modular PSU going into Panasonic TH 55FX800Z 4K TV, and tried all of the settings combos on that too.

This doesn't happen with nearly all the same setup on my 7700k build with the same GPU and RAM, PSU ,Cooler etc.

The weirdest thing is if I start the Windows Magnifier, even if it's on zero magnification, the problem goes away instantly until I close it or restart.

First world problem I know but it's really annoying having to have the Windows Magnifier running constantly.

Something about changing resolution/refresh rate seems to be messing up the Explorer or DWM refresh -

Tried other subs and no one seems to have a clue. Any ideas?

  2. Refresh rate is reset whenever the desktop resolution is changed

    Greetings for Norway

I've been a having a problem regarding resolution changes in Windows 10 Pro. I'm using a 1920x1080 @ 120Hz monitor. I'm also using two nVidia GeForce GTX 970s in SLI configuration. I've noticed that whenever I change the resolution in Windows my refresh
rate is always reset to 60Hz even though I've manually set it to 120Hz many times before. I've tried changing resolution by using nVidia Control Panel, in which case the refresh rate stays the same (at 120Hz) after the resolution change. This led me to believe
this might happen only when the change in resolution is handled by the OS, as I did not have this problem in Windows 7.

This is especially irritating when trying to use the nVidia Dynamic Super Resolution function in games which do not let me manually adjust the game's refresh rate. Everytime I turn on this supersampling-function the monitor resets it's refresh rate. This also
happens whenever I start up a fullscreen application that is not configured to run at native resolution. This makes me unable to use my monitors optimal refresh rate.

I was wondering if there is a solution to this problem. If not, is it possible to fix it in an upcoming update?

    Thanks

  3. How to set default refresh rate

I've no control in the resolutions dropdown, and of course I can select the exact mode I want from List all modes.

But what I'm trying to accomplish is for Windows to recognize 60hz as the default refresh rate when changing resolutions (when I'm not specifying the refresh rate).

That comes in handy when running applications (mostly games) which let you select resolutions but not refresh rates. And yes, those applications do support the resolution/60hz combination I want for them.

So that's why this thread is titled "How to set a default refresh rate". If it's no possible, then so be it. But I could swear that before the Windows Creator's update, changing resolutions didn't lower my refresh rate.

After Game Exit or Changing Resolution/Refresh rate and back Windows is Laggy Until Restart

Where are the resolution/refresh rate settings in AMD Crimson?

Having to use Windows display settings manager to change resolution. Advanced display settings shows the resolution but to change refresh rate i have to go to display adapter properties!

It's just a longer step than it being right there one click away in CCC. Not only that but CCC is still there in Crimson if you use the advanced settings.
