Windows 10: After I power my laptop the screen is black I cannot enter the bios however the cursor...

Black screen when I power on my laptop can't enter bios can move my cursor.

Black screen, no cursor, can't enter safe mode


Okay, so I reserved my free copy of Windows 10 a few days ago, and tried to install this morning. It all seemed to be going smoothly... then everything disappeared, and I was left with a black screen for three hours. Finally in frustration I powered off and on again; The blue windows 10 logo appeared, and the loading wheel span for a few seconds, followed by the black screen again - no cursor or anything. I can't enter safe mode, either - it makes a really violent buzzing sound whenever I hit F8. I'm worried my laptop is irreparably damaged... can anyone help with this? I'm upgrading from Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron laptop (or trying to).

Getting black screen, no cursor, and no power to USB ports

I have a desktop computer with Win10 on it, and it's not starting up. Just goes right into a black screen, with no cursor, and doesn't seem to be any power to any of the USB ports. I took the side off the computer and I can see a green light lit up on the motherboard, but that's about it. Anyone have any suggestions? Does this mean the motherboard is bad? Thanks

 

Black Screen solveed definitively

I have this same issue. Windows 10 was installed and was working fine on my laptop and then one day, black screen without a cursor or anything. I can only power the unit off and on, but with nothing other than a black screen I can't do anything. Tried the "ctrl-password" step but nothing. Nothing on the keyboard has any effect, I can only do a hard power off/on.

The only thing I can think of, all had been working fine when my battery died. My laptop automatically shut down and went to blank (not black) screen. I plugged it in for a while to charge but ever since then, I can power on, I hear the harddrive spin and the fan comes on, but I never get anything other than a black screen. Did your problem start after a power issue?
