I upgraded to windows 10 my audio stopped working. The volume has a red X over it and in the device manager no audio devices are listed. How can I re-install the audio device for free?

Hey, I posted a video on YouTube of how I solved my similar audio problem in Windows 10. Try to follow the video at

If you have the red x, follow the steps in the video. If it doesn't work, follow the steps again, until the red x point in the video, and try Windows Update instead, and press on the red x: It should give you an option to choose the default audio device. If not, continue the video's steps.

 

red X by audio after 1709 update - audio device gone in device manager.

Just updated to 1709, and got a red X by the speaker symbol. All instructions say "manually update the driver, or, de-install / re-install, or perform an automatic update... there's nothing to de-install / re-install and update. I was going to manually update
the inf driver, but there is no audio or sound speaker symbols listed in my device manager - gone!

Any suggestions?
