After installing KB5040427, mouse cursor stops suddenly when trying to move. Possibly...

Upon downloading the most recent update for Windows 10 home on September 14th, 2024, my cursor has begun malfunctioning. The cursor in question will occasionally stop in place despite my moving of the mouse. One could compare this to getting a wheel stuck on a particularly deep crack, needing to provide another motion while missing my intended target entirely. Additionally, the mouse cursor will sometimes be unresponsive, refusing to move an inch or acknowledge my clicking. Amongst all fixes found, I have tried all, and none have resolved my issue. Examples would be checking my graphics driver

    No mouse cursor

    Hi,

It is possible that the system did not recognize the mouse of your computer after it booted up. This can be the reason why you do not see the mouse cursor. Kindly perform a power cycle to refresh the power of the computer. To do this, follow these steps:

    • Shutdown the computer.
    • After shutting it down, remove the battery (if you're using a laptop) and disconnect the computer from the charger.
    • Wait for 1 minute.
    • After 1 minute, attach the battery and turn on the computer.
    • Check if you will see the mouse cursor.

Let us know how it goes.

    mouse cursor corrupt

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

It sounds like the custom cursor file you've downloaded and applied for your Windows 10 system is either missing or corrupted, which is causing the erratic behavior of your mouse cursor. Here's how you can fix it:

    1. Change the Cursor to Default:
      • Go to Settings by pressing Windows + I.
      • Click on Devices.
      • Select Mouse from the left pane, then click on Additional mouse options.
      • In the Mouse Properties window, go to the Pointers tab.
      • Under the Scheme, select Windows Default (system scheme) or any other default option available.
      • Click Apply, then OK to save the changes.
    2. Check for the Missing or Corrupted File:
      • Navigate to the location mentioned in the error message

        C:\Users\Vmzla\Downloads\macOS-BigSur-Regular-Windows\
      • If the Default.cur file is indeed missing or appears to be of an unusually small size (which could indicate corruption), you'll need to download the cursor pack again or choose another one.
    3. Download Cursor File Again:
      • Find a reputable source to download the macOS cursor pack for Windows.
      • Download the cursor pack and extract it to a known location.
    4. Reapply the New Cursor:
      • Follow the first step to open the Mouse Properties window.
      • This time, instead of choosing a default scheme, click on Browse and navigate to where you've extracted the new cursor pack.
      • Select the appropriate .cur file for the 'Normal Select' cursor and click Open.
      • Click Apply, then OK to save the changes.
    5. Update Windows and Drivers:
      • Ensure your Windows 10 is up to date by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and clicking on Check for updates.
      • Update your mouse or touchpad driver through Device Manager by right-clicking on the start menu, selecting Device Manager, finding your mouse or touchpad under Mice and other pointing devices, right-clicking on it, and selecting Update driver.
If after these steps, your cursor is still behaving erratically, consider restarting your computer if you haven't already. Sometimes, a simple restart can fix unexpected issues.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
