  1. After installing updates 20H2 and KB4586781, HDMI connection got disabled

Earlier today, I've applied the 20H2 and KB4586781 updates to a laptop. This laptop is connected to a secondary monitor throughHDMI, this connection was working flawlessly. Right after the updates were installed, the HDMI justturned off and became completely unusable. It's as if the HDMI connection had dissapeared from the laptop.

I've tried to fix the problem by completely uninstalling the graphic card from the device manager and then reinstalling the drivers different versions of them but that didn't solved the issue either. The HDMI cable is fine, and so is the secondary monitor. Next I list some details:

    • The laptop is an Acer Aspire V3-572G, old but works smoothly with Windows 10.
    • The GPU with the troublesome HDMI connector is an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 Intel Haswell-MB ULT GT2.

Something in the updates is messing up with the HDMI connection, and this is not the first time that this has happened. In the previous ocassions, I managed to solve the issue by reinstalling a certain Windows 10 compatible old version of the Intel GPU drivers provided by Acer, but this time that's not working at all. Also, I've tried some original Intel drivers but that also hasn't fixed the problem.

So, more than a question, this post is just me sharing my situation with others who might be having the same problem as me. If anyone in the community has found a solution for this even if it was for a different laptop or GPU, I'm all ears. And to Microsoft, well, be more careful about not breaking things that were working perfectly fine.

    :)

    Hi Craig,

We appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

Please try the methods below and check if it works.

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to follow the steps and check.

Let’s first check if “HDMI Output” is selected as the default device.

    Follow these steps:

    • Click Start and select
      Control Panel.
    • On the right hand side of the screen, under
View by: click the drop-down icon and select Large icons.
    • Click Sound.
    • If you do not have the
HDMI Output listed under “Playback” tab, right click in the
playback window and select Show Disabled Device and
      Show Disconnected Device.
    • If the HDMI Output option appears, right-click
      HDMI Output and select Default
      Device.
Now the audio must be playing on HDMI

    Method 2:

I suggest you to update the HDMI drivers. Refer the below link to check how to update drivers in Windows 10.

How to: Install and Update drivers in
    Windows 10

If the issue persist, try to update the recent HDMI drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check if the issue is resolved.

I hope the above information helps. Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with Windows. We are glad to assist you.

    Thank you.
