Windows 10: After installing Windows, my laptop's battery suddenly decreases in capacity

Hello, I have an Asus TUF Gaming FX505DT laptop with Windows 10. I have used it for about 7 months since I started university, before I didn't use it much, I have had it for about 3 years with sporadic use. A few days ago I had the need to install an Android emulator, so I activated Hyper V. When I restarted the PC it did not start, so the only solution was to reinstall Windows without deleting my files light blue/blue screen . After the process, which took about 4 hours, I noticed that the battery lasted about 20 minutes with a full charge, before the incident it lasted about 3 hours usi

Laptop battery capacity decreased 75% within 5 days without any usage?

My windows 10 laptop battery capacity was 40,263mWh on 25Dec2022 then it suddenly decreased to 19,437mWh. Now on 1st Jan 2023 it decreased to 10,742mWh. 40,263mWh to 10,742mwh. Where is fault?

Based on the information you provided, it definitely can be wear and tear. You can usually see laptop battery decline around 2-year mark, after 300-400 charges.

I would have run the report as well to look at the capacity, which is what you already did.

You mentioned that you've already tried recalibrating the battery and updating the drivers and system, which are good troubleshooting steps. If there's anything else you can try, I would recommend a BIOS update/install just in case there's any firmware issue (unlikely though). However, if those steps didn't resolve the issue, it may be time to consider replacing the battery.

 

Laptop battery capacity suddenly decreased

I own a 2-year-old HP Pavilion laptop.

On the 25th, within 35 minutes, the battery suddenly dropped from 99% to 6%. Ever since then, not only doesn't the battery last more than an hour or two, the battery doesn't charge all the way to 100 but instead, in the 69-75% range.

After I realized there's a problem, I went on several websites to try and find out what I could do to figure out the problem. I saw sources saying to do a battery report, so I did and found out that both design capacity and full charge capacity went down from 39917 mWh to 39420 mWh (on the day this started) to 36960 mWh (right now). Still, I don't know if that explains why the battery won't charge all the way.

I tried recalibrating the battery but again, since it doesn't go all the way up, it hasn't really helped. I tried updating the drivers and the system itself, nothing changed. I don't know how old the battery is but even if it was the original one, it wouldn't suddenly act up like this, no? What else can I do? I would have included a screenshot of the battery report, but it wouldn't let me.
