After installing windows updates my computer is stuck in the 'Your PC did not shutdown...

After windows updates pestering me to install updates every minute of the day I finally decided to do an install. It asked me to restart my PC and I did.

After that I get a blue screen telling me that 'Your PC did not start correctly'. The repair boot loop. Now I had this issue before as well and I had to take my computer to best buy where I had to pay hundreds of dollars just to get this fixed plus I also lost all my files in disk C.

Now after this issue showed up again I literally tried all the options on the internet. Command prompts running scans, doing a boot fix, trying to turn on safe mode, running the dir command. Everything. Even tried the windows boot USB telling me to hit repair windows and run the diagnostics. Nothing works.

The only thing I didnt try was the mini tool option which costs 80 bucks to download.

At this point I am really angry. This has happened to me twice. Is there really no solution for this problem?and the problem really started AFTER I installed the windows updates. Please let me know if you guys have any other solutions. How many times am I going to face this nightmare of a problem specially when I have work the next morning and in times like these I prefer my home computer being reliable.

    :)

Quick Tip: Easily Shutdown or Restart WITHOUT Installing Updates.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been in the situation of needing to shutdown a computer quickly, but there are updates waiting to install. Previous to Windows 8 you could at least restart without being forced to install the updates, and if you are quick you could hit the power button when the computer begins to POST and the computer will turn off. With Windows 8, now even restarting forces you to install the updates. You could use the cmd and Shutdown.exe to shutdown the machine, but I'm getting old and try to avoid the command prompt as much as possible.

Anyway, the easy way I've found to Shutdown or Restart without being forced to install the updates is to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and use the power button in the bottom right on the screen that comes up. For whatever reason, this power button is the only one I've found in Windows 7/8 that gives the option to Shutdown or Restart without installing the updates.

    Thought I'd share.

windows update stuck at installation screen and cannot get to desktop

    Hi Sue,

To understand the issue better, I would like to ask some questions:

    • Is the computer stuck in the Installing updates screen?
    • For how long is the computer stuck in the screen?
    • When was the computer last updated?
    • Is the screen showing any percentage of installation?

Sometimes the installation might take a long time to install if the update is of large size. So, I suggest you to wait for sometime and check if the system boots to the desktop. If it is taking a longer time, then perform a Power Drain by following the steps
    provided below:

    • Shut down the Computer.
    • Remove all power source (including battery if it is a laptop).
    • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
    • Connect the power source and start the computer.
    • After the computer boots to the desktop, suggest you to install all the pending updates.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on the status for further assistance.

    Thank you.
