HI, so like in title - after installing this KB5031445 built-in screen goes blank, but external screens work fine. First of all it's not hardware related as after fresh re-install it works fine - until I decide to install KB5031445. Then after reboot - only external screen is working. The built-in screen backlit is on however - it's like it's trying to activate it. I tried many different drivers from intel going all the way back to 15.45... As soon as I remove intel drivers and reboot - windows will install Basic Microsoft driver - then internal screen works ok - but no external screen will w

Toshiba Laptop Black Screen

I have a Toshiba Laptop, Was reinstalling windows 7 on it last night left it doing the updates then shut it down. Turned it on this this afternoon only to find the laptop screen is Black and also there is a burning smell coming from the Fan.

I connected the Laptop to a external monitor that is fine, Can go into bios, Windows boots up fine Etc.
Just took apart the laptop earlier to check all the cables where in correctly, Checked the motherboard over for any damage, burnt bits but but found nothing. Just put it back together now but im still getting this burning smell and i still cant use the laptop screen only a external screen.

I Tried Pressing FN+F5 to switch to the laptop screen, But still black screen. Any Suggestions please ?

• Were there any changes made on your laptop prior to this?
• Does it only happen when you use Internet Explorer, or have you tried using a different browser?
• Are there any external devices plugged into your laptop?

W10 Black Screen Before Bootup

I installed Windows 10 on my Gateway laptop many months ago and it worked fine until recently. I have it set up as dual boot, W7 & W10, and I have an external monitor (also external keyboard and mouse). When I boot up and choose Windows 7 it boots up fine.
When I choose W10 I get a black screen, with the mouse pointer visible. Most advice I have seen says to go into safe mode and to update the display adapter. However, even in safe mode the screen is black, so I cannot do this. I did manage to get into W10 once
and had it search automatically for an updated driver, but it said I already had the most current driver. It is dated 2012 though, so that seems unlikely.

I also tried changing the power option to deselect Turn On Fast Startup. That did not help.

I also disconnected the external monitor and all other devices, but I still have the black screen on my laptop display.

The only way I can get out of this W10 black screen is to hold down the power button which forces my laptop to shut down.

Any suggestions?
