    After the most recent Microsoft update, my excel file when saved has a warning message about a ~$ file which appears grayed and uses the same file name. I can't access it but I see a warning message. Why is this appearing and how do I stop it? I can't access the file itself. Warning message is downloaded.

    :)

    Recent File List

    Remove-ItemProperty -Path "Registry::HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

    ...

    you get the idea. ( too lazy to put it in a for loop and test it.

    or just open regedit and remove all the fileX from that key.

    Recent File List

    to prevent it from autopopulating try making the reg key
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    \Applets\Paint\Recent File List read only
