    If I look at the file "INFO" of the PDF, I can still see the correct creation date from 2022 and I've made zero changes to the file. When I simply download it, File Explorer in Windows 10 changes both the creation date and the modified date. This is frustrating and incorrect. see snapshot.

    The Date created indicates when the file is first written to a given volume. So, that date should be the date and time you downloaded the file. Date created cannot be used as a reliable indicator of when the content was first created. For photos, you have "Date taken" and for Office files, you have "Content created". I don't think there is an equivalent for PDFs, but I'll double check my PDF tools and properties when I'm back at my PC.

    Date modified indicates when the file was last changed. That could be main content or metadata, such as a tag or comment. Date modified does not change when copying files from one volume to another, but depending on the software involved, it may change for downloads. For example, files extracted from a downloaded zip file using Explorer's built in zip handler will have Date modified dates that are the same as the download date and time. But a third party zip handler, such as BandiZip or 7-Zip will retain the original Date modified date and time.

    Hi.

    If Date Modified doesn't show on the options when you choose Sort by, we suggest that you perform this steps:

    • In File Explorer, select the folder you want to have changes with.
    • Right-click and select Sort by.
    • Select More, then check if the Date modified option has a check mark.
    • Click OK, then try to perform again the steps provided by Acelyn Alc.
