after restart, a drive has disappeared but Disk Management won't start

    Hi All, first post.

tl;dr had to force a shutdown then restart. After restarting, a disk isn't visible in Explorer. Disk Management won't start, so I can't check drive number issues.

So, I had to force a shutdown and a restart recently. A program froze, neither Resource Monitor nor Task Manager could end the process, so I tried to restart the machine. The restart itself hung (it just reached the restart screen, and nothing happened for a very long time) so I had to force a shut down using power button on computer case. I waited 30 seconds, and then restarted.

The restart took an usually long time (usually very quick, as my OS is on an SSD), the computer just stayed on the motherboard splash screen for many minutes before finally booting Windows. This is normal now: restarts always take many minutes.

When the computer does finally reboot into Windows, one of my SSDs is missing from Explorer (it's an m.2 SSD). But I can't check it because Disk Management stalls at "Connecting to Virtual Disk Service" (my first thought was to see if the drive still had its letter assigned to it, but I can't check that now).

I'm at a loss, never had this happen before. Can anyone point me to a path to fix the problem? I've done a little googling, and messed with a few things that some blogs have suggested, but none addressed the problem (I've undone all that messing).

Windows is fully up to date.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

    Chas

    :)

N97 Bluetooth disappeared, won´t start again

Today without any reason the Bluetooth disappeared, and it won´t start anymore from the connections menu. Any clue where to start looking. Software V20, and no new update available.

  3. Disk management console view is not up-to-date

i dont know how to fix your disk management, but i can fix your partition problems...

open up Command Prompt with admin rights. (Right click, run as admin)

    enter in
    DISKPART
    list disk

then find the Disk number for your Raid array... lets call it number 7 ( you can tell what disk is what by the total size)
    type in

    Select Disk 7
List Partition (will give you a list of all the partitions..)
Select Partition 1 (im assuming you only have 1 partition on Disk 7) repeat this step if you have more partitions.
    ASSIGN

that should get the array up and running ready to use.

    EDITED.

    any problems, post back ^^

side question, have you tried restarting the PC?

external hard drive showing up in device management but not disk management

    Hi,

I recently tried to use a brand new Seagate 2TB External HD, but it is not showing up. It initially showed up, but after I tried reformatting it to exFAT32, it disappeared from the disk management list.

    I then tried:

    • refreshing the disk management list,
    • inserting into a different USB port,
    • re-starting my computer, and
    • uninstalling the device from device manager/letting it refresh,

I still can't see it. There is no yellow error in the USB controller list.

    I'm on Windows 10.

    Intel i5-3317U @ 1.7GHz

    Any suggestions? Thanks!
