I see that others have had problems with printers following Windows updates, but since one of the two updates from last night is a *security* update, I am concerned that simply uninstalling them will expose me to additional security risks. After KB5025221 & KB5002221 install, my Brother HL-L3210CW printer won't on Windows 10. There is no error message. Windows sends data to the printer, but nothing prints on the printer. This same printer was working very well yesterday until the enforced updates were applied overnight.

  2. Install error - 0x800f0831 on windows 11 2022-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5012592)

I cannot install 2022-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5012592). The installation did not complete and now my computer is unstable. I have tried troubleshooting and all the steps listed in the previous post. Any changes to Windows 11 do not complete. My computer reboots several times a day and locks up at least 2 times per day.

You can download the missing manifest from here. Save the archive and extract the manifest file to your desktop.

Download AdvancedRun (from Nirsoft.net) and start CMD.exe as TrustedInstaller (Instructions are here)

In the TrustedInstaller Command Prompt, run:

    • copy "%userprofile%\desktop\amd64*.manifest" "C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests\"
Or if you've redirected Desktop to OneDrive, type:

    • copy "%userprofile%\OneDrive\desktop\amd64*.manifest" "C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests\"
    Then, type:

    • exit
Re-run the Cumulative Update installer. If you get any errors again, please upload the updated CBS log.

    After the 4/11/2022 update KB5025221 & KB5002221 that installed in a forced Restart, a...

Quick Tip: Easily Shutdown or Restart WITHOUT Installing Updates.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been in the situation of needing to shutdown a computer quickly, but there are updates waiting to install. Previous to Windows 8 you could at least restart without being forced to install the updates, and if you are quick you could hit the power button when the computer begins to POST and the computer will turn off. With Windows 8, now even restarting forces you to install the updates. You could use the cmd and Shutdown.exe to shutdown the machine, but I'm getting old and try to avoid the command prompt as much as possible.

Anyway, the easy way I've found to Shutdown or Restart without being forced to install the updates is to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and use the power button in the bottom right on the screen that comes up. For whatever reason, this power button is the only one I've found in Windows 7/8 that gives the option to Shutdown or Restart without installing the updates.

    Thought I'd share.
