After the most recent Windows 11 update Adobe PDF Reader no longer opens

After the last update of Windows 11 on my computer Adobe PDF Reader no longer opens. It shows in task manager, always 2 copies show in memory but a viewer screen never opens. I downloaded another viewer and am able to view PDFS but, I have a few PDF Code books that require permissions to open and only work in Adobe so I need to find a solution.

    :)

  2. Trouble Opening PDF's

    Hi Parker,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. We will assist you in resolving the issue.

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • Does the issue persist in Edge browser?
    • Do you get similar error when you open the PDF file in Adobe reader?

Check if you are facing similar issue in Edge browser.

Step 1: Open PDF file in Adobe reader and check if you are facing similar issue.

To open PDF file directly from Adobe reader, follow the steps below:

    • Open Adobe application and click on Edit.
    • Click on Preferences and select Internet.
    • Uncheck Display PDF in Browser option and check if you are able to open the PDF file without getting the error code.

Step 2: If you are able to open PDF file in Adobe reader, I suggest you to
    Turn off Internet Explorer,
enable it again and check if the issue is resolved.

For further assistance, I suggest you to post your query in Adobe support forum.

    Thank you.

  3. Open PDF files in Adobe Acrobat Reader instead of browser

Hi, my name is Kelly, and I'm an independent consultant and I'm here to help.

To make sure that PDF files always open in Adobe Acrobat Reader instead of the browser, you can try the following steps:

    Open Adobe Acrobat Reader.

    Go to Edit > Preferences.

In the Categories section on the left, select "General".

Under "Basic Tools", click on "Select Default PDF Handler".

Select "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC" from the list and click "Apply".

If the above steps don't work, you can try the following:

Right-click on a PDF file in Windows Explorer.

Select "Open With" and then "Choose another app".

Select "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC" from the list and check the box that says "Always use this app to open .pdf files".

    Click "OK".

If the issue persists, you may want to check your browser settings to make sure that it is not set to open PDF files in the browser by default. Here's how to do it for some common browsers:

    Microsoft Edge:

Open Edge and click on the three dots in the upper right corner.

Select "Settings" and then "Cookies and site permissions".

Scroll down to "PDF documents" and toggle off the switch.

    Google Chrome:

Open Chrome and type "chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments" into the address bar.

Toggle off "Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome".

    Mozilla Firefox:

Open Firefox and type "aboutAfter the most recent Windows 11 update Adobe PDF Reader no longer opens :preferences" into the address bar.

Click on "Applications" in the left-hand menu.

Scroll down to "Portable Document Format (PDF)" and select "Use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (in Firefox)" from the dropdown.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

  4. After the most recent Windows 11 update Adobe PDF Reader no longer opens

Open a PDF with Adobe's PDF Reader

Firstly, open Office on the phone and see if your PDF document shows up. If it does then tap on it to open it and you will be given a choice of which PDF reader you would like to open your document with (assuming you have more than one PDF reader) otherwise
    Adobe reader will launch.

If the PDF isn't present within the Office app then try moving the document to the Documents folder on the phone or to your Skydrive folder.

The next time you launch Adobe Reader your PDF document will show up in the app.
