I am getting a little smarter with Win 10. I now understand the difference between a "Microsoft

login in acct" and a Local user Acct!!

After enabling the Administrator acct and using some command line scripts, the Photos App

now opens and works on Win 10. I believe many of the problems are a result of User security issues.

This PC was an upgrade from Win 8.1 Pro. I wanted to create a Password reset disk (Flash drive) and

could not with a Local Standard Account. the newly enabled Admin account allowed me to do this.

A Password reset Flash Drive could only be created in the Local Admin account!! and a test of this:

By trying to log into a Standard Account (shown as Administrator privileges in Users), and using a

wrong password in an attempt to try out the backup password file....There was no link to the password

reset flash drive.

Sorry a little confusing...bottom line: I believe a lot of the issues deal with a Microsoft Login vs a Local

created Login.

In the future, when setting up a new PC with Win 10, I am going to enable the Administrator account as

a Local account, with a strong password. Then, if the customer has issues with logging in to the desktop,

a wrong password will bring up all the user accounts, the Admin account can be selected, and the original

non accessible user account can have its password changed. Probably easier then trying to create the

password reset disk, which will get lost anyway!

 

Local User Acct Not showing on Login

Bought my wife a new Laptop, came with Win10 Home. So I setup the 1st OOBE acct which was admin privileged. Got it signed into my routers secured SSID. Then got security software installed and configured. Did all the long time updates suffering my ISP
(or it's leased modem) bumping me off several times. Finally got the machine all ready to go.

So today I went to setup a local limited user acct so my wife won't have to surf the web in an admin acct. After all this is Windows 10 a modern OS surely creating a 2nd Non Admin User acct can't be such an exercise to complete, right ?

Ok the actual creation goes ok in the Control Panel->Users. I sign out of my admin acct expecting to see the new non admin user login option come up on the login screen. Nope, just the Admin acct showing (the one I just signed out of).

So I do a total restart, same thing, no sign of new user acct on login at all. Only the OOBE acct shows.

So I login to the admin acct. I look and no files have been created for the new user, but I think that usually happens the first time the user logs in (?) so that's not a biggy yet.

I open an admin cmd console and run Net User and the new user is showing up in the net user display and it's active and it's local group membership is "users".

So I'm at a loss. Did I get a windows 10 that refuses to let me have a functional 2nd user acct ? Just can't imagine such being this difficult right out of the box.

Appreciate any info as I've searched several places and found nothing to help me

I reset my windows 10 and since then I cannot log onto my user acct. and I could just before the reset. it says to make sure I am using my Microsoft password and I don't know what that was. I tried everything I have ever used. there are two other user
accts on my computer and they can be logged into as usual. its just mine. I reset my Microsoft password and it still will not let me log on. I can go to another user acct and log onto Microsoft edge and it will take my new password but if I try to do anything
administrate wise it says its the wrong password. HELP!
