Windows 10: After update to 1903, Windows Media Player no longer sees anything in my Music library

I had a successful (apparently) update to Win10 v1903 this morning, but among the quirks I'm noticing that Windows Media Player no longer sees my music library. This was working fine last night (under 1809).


Organize > Manage Libraries > Music

Shows the library folder correctly (E:\Public\music) yet the Music folder (in the left navigation column) shows:

There are no items in your Music Library.​

Click Organize, and then click Manage libraries to include folders in your library.​

Where I ought to see a listing of my library.


I tried removing that folder from the Music library and adding it back. Didn't help.


I tried navigating to that library with Windows Explorer, opening an Artist folder, opening an album folder, selecting a song then using the context menu (right mouse click) to select Play with Windows Media Player. The song plays.


So I infer that there's nothing wrong with the folders/files themselves, just a disconnect in the mind of Windows.


I tried using the WMP troubleshooter at http://aka.ms/diag_wmpc10 as suggested in an answer to a different question, it reset my customizations, but that did not make any difference.


So I'm at a loss to guess what to try next.


Possibly related: none of the folders in E:\public are showing the custom icons, such as a musical note for \Music. They are all showing the plain manila folder icon. I don't remember if this was the case last night. Now I'm very frightened.


Worse, the Location tab for folders in C:\user\public seems to have reset to the default (itself) whereas I had set it to e:\public\music. And they've also lost their custom icons. The location change was necessary because my c: drive is a flash drive with ample room to hold Windows, but not all of my public and user \Documents, \Music, \Videos and such.


Now I'm terrified … should I be considering rolling back this update? Or just re-establishing the Locations (Assuming I remember them all).

Hello.
Just turned on my computer and Windows has one album showing with 4572 songs at 0 minutes
The music in file explorer plays thru groove but no longer thru media player.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail
Updating media library has been on for a while but nothing is updating.
I would post a screenshot but don't know how here
What do i do to get my library back in WMP and have it work?

Yes. I uninstalled and reinstalled just like your screenshot.
When I went into file explorer, if I right click the track and select play in Windows Media Player, it will play. However, the library in Media Player is gone. i can't click album, artist or anything.

Hi, do you mean WMP, and do you mean thus?

For example, if I do this, the file plays.




How are you trying to play a file?

- as viewed how? Could you post a screenshot?

To post a screenshot, use a capture program or the Windows Snip tool to create an image file. Save the file, then use the Inser Image icon (tooltip) above your post.

There's a tutorial... in the Tutorial section... on doing this.

Please try this from an admin command or Powershell prompt:
chkdsk c: /scan
and report the result. (This doesn't fix anything, just checks).

Are your music files also on C: ?
