    Hello! My mom has a laptop that started as Win7, was upgraded to Win 10. After a recent update, the machine is asking for a password it wasn't, prior to this, the password must be several years old. The email account that she used when it was new **** Email address is removed for privacy *** is no longer available to her, and the phone number listed is her old land line, also no longer accessible. I've tried entering the information to try and get the account back, but Microsoft refuses, saying we don't have enough information. Is there a way around this? Change phone number, change email, something else? Th

    • Is this is the first time you are trying to sign in to Cortana?
    • Did you try to check if similar issues occur when you sign through Microsoft Account(MSA)?
    • What is the current build of Windows 10 installed in your computer?

    If it still does not help, I suggest you to make sure that you have changed your location/region and language of the PC to the ones supported for Cortana.

    • Control Panel
    • Select Change date, time, or number formats
    • In the Region dialog appears, choose Administrative and click
      Change system locale.

    • Which Windows build version do you have? Have you updated your Windows 10 to Creators Update?
    • What are the troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Is this the first time that you are trying to use Cortana and you don't have an old password?
