TL:/DR After updating, my laptop is barely alive

So two nights ago I was uninstalling unused games and programs and backing up files because I saw there was an update that was to be installed upon the next restart. In the middle of backing up my files my laptop blue screen crashes and restarts. I’m like “inconvenient but I’ll pick up where I left off after the update.” I have an Acer Nitro 5 and despite sometimes letting it get a little warm when loading big apps I take good care of it. Unfortunately the monitor broke during my last year of college when some douchebag on the subway knocked my bag out of my hand literally the month after my warranty ran out so since then I’ve been using a hdmi cable to hook it up to my tv and therefore the cannot see the initial windows loading screen before the image streams through my tv. What is fortunate is that I don’t seem to have lost everything. My screensaver and all my personalizations/user info are still there but for some reason it takes a good ten minutes to boot up the login screen and when I can finally login my desktop is completely void of any thumbnails, the windows explorer does not work but displays a permanent loading icon when my mouse hovers over it. I initially tried to do a system restore via the task manager but that crashed every time I tried. A paging/virtual memory thing popped up which after some light research I tried to attempted to change the size of due to the currently allocated amount being zero, but after saying I’d need to restart for my changes to be made, the number reverted back to zero. Other weird details: -The clock is accurate and continuously updating - I’ve tried blindly booting from safe mode but that doesn’t work - if I try to switch users the screen turns blue, no users show up but the ease of access/power/WiFi etc icons remain - the WiFi is connecting normally to my router

USB HDD Keep Alive: Hello everyone. I have a specific need. Before you say "do this instead" or get a Nas, I simply cannot afford any other options. I have a USB HDD attached to my router. Update 1809 has rendered my perfectly functioning laptop barely usable!: An expensive, very, custom ASUS running PERFECTLY for 18 months now, in spite of Microsoft force-feeding 'feature' updates into it (has nobody at Microsoft ever entertained the idea that some of us could not care any less about having new 'features'?). That was until the...
