  1. Agreeing to One Drive Backup Changed My Entire File System - How Do I Stop It?

I got a pop-up message asking me if I wanted to backup my files with OneDrive. Who wouldn't want to do that so I agreed. One Drive then replaced the location of all my files, an action that I cannot do. I am infuriated with this manipulation and abuse of power. It has ruined my well-organized files which I'm afraid to undo bc it may erase some of my work. It's going to take me days to review and re-organize my work. Bc of this, I will not ever opt to use One Drive backup again. Please advise on how I delete and/or stop One Drive; restore my Quicklinks, Desktop, and other shortcuts to their ori

Change the backup drive for File History

Hi Kathy, my name is Andrew and I'm an Independent advisor here to help you.

If you want to change the backup drive for File History, you have to stop the current process. I recommend that you try the instructions below to stop file history on an older drive and then restart it on a new drive:

    1. Go to the Settings

    2. Move to Update & Security > Backup

    3. Press More Options, scroll down to find Backup to a different drive section, then select Stop Using Drive

    4. Plug in the new storage drive, move to Settings > Update & Security > Backup, and select Add a Drive.

    5. Refer to the article and follow the steps to restart File History and configure it

    Thanks,

Using network hard drive for backup

It depends what sort of backup you want to do. If you're happy just backing up regular files, then there are a bazillion (really, that many!) different bits of freeware to do that. There is a good list here:

Download Back Up Tools for Windows - MajorGeeks

and pretty much all of them can do network backups. Some even have fancy options like encryption. Really, the most useful thing is just being able to schedule them and know they ran OK.

You may also want to make a system image backup too, and you'll find that software in the very same list.

I don't have Windows 8 as yet, so I'm afraid I can't suggest any for that platform. Personally, I use Clonezilla for image backups.

Change Drive for Backup and System Image

Wanted to change the drive where my Backups and System Images are stored in order to free up space on the drive I had been storing them on. Folders were created on the hard drive that I want to switch to, but they are all empty. Backups and System Images
continue to be stored on the old drive. How do I make the change? I also noticed that when I made the attempt the longest possible frequency on the list was hourly and I want to do it weekly. How do I accomplish these two tasks?
