Windows 10: all audio devices gone after windows update

ive been using windows update 2004 since june and never had the problem.

after restart I get no audio: https://i.imgur.com/bf5YuGE.png

I have different audio devices like on-board, DAC, etc.

but it's not just the audio output. input devices tanked: https://i.imgur.com/HY0jt4S.png

speakers & mic all present in device manager: https://i.imgur.com/wb2lsGT.png

no warning signs or unknown devices in any categories of device manager.

uninstalled the update that ruined all but after numerous restarts i still get no audio devices...

pls help...

red X by audio after 1709 update - audio device gone in device manager.

Just updated to 1709, and got a red X by the speaker symbol. All instructions say "manually update the driver, or, de-install / re-install, or perform an automatic update... there's nothing to de-install / re-install and update. I was going to manually update
the inf driver, but there is no audio or sound speaker symbols listed in my device manager - gone!

Any suggestions?

This issue may occur due to the audio and display driver is out dated. Let’s try simple troubleshooting methods and check if it helps in resolving the issue. Follow the below methods information provided.

Method 1.

I would suggest you to run sound audio troubleshooter, it will automatically detect the problem and fix it. Follow the below steps.

  Press Windows key + R and click on
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on View by: category and click on
  Small icon.
  
• 
  Now click on troubleshooting and click on
  Hardware and Sound.
  
• 
  Click on Playing Audio and Click on Next button.
  

If the issue still persist try the below steps:

Method 2.

I recommend you to update the audio driver and check if it helps.

• 
  Press Windows key + X and select
  Device manager.
  
• Now click on Audio input and output and right click on it and
  update the driver.
• For the video issues try the below method.

Method 3.

Also I suggest you to update the display driver and let us know the status.

• 
  Press Windows Key + R and type
  devmgmt.msc in the box and hit Enter.
  
• 
  Locate and Expand the Display Adapter driver.
  
• 
  Right Click on the Display Device.
  
• 
  Click on update.

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.
