Windows 10: All Custom desktop shortcuts disappeared, some app shortcuts still there, recycle bin still...

I logged into my work laptop this morning and noticed that all my custom icons rdp shortcuts etc and some saved text files on the desktop have all disappeared but I had 4 shortcuts still remaining my workplaces IT support contact "card", adobe, mouse without borders and the recycle bin are all still there in their normal spots but all other shortcuts have disappeared.I have not logged in with a new profile.I have not installed any 3rd party software, the only thing that changed recently yesterday was Microsoft visio, project & 365 all updated but apart from that, nothing has changed.

Desktop shortcuts disappearing

One of the computers i maintain has a few of the desktop shortcuts disappearing now and then. It runs windows 7, and has a shitload of shortcuts on the desktop.

Any idea what might cause this?

 

Keyboard shortcut to Recycle Bin

Assuming you still want to access the recycle bin:

Try rt click the Recycle bin, click Create shortcut. That appears on your desktop.

Assign a hot key in properties of that shortcut.

Set properties of shortcut to hide.

You can then use the hot key to open the recycle bin.

Recycle Bin disappeared

I realize the inconvenience you are experiencing with recovering your accidentally deleted pictures as Recycle Bin has disappeared. I will certainly help you with the issue.



I suggest you to follow the instructions provided below and check if it helps.

Step 1:

• Open File Explorer.
  
• Go to click View option.
• Double click on Options, on the top right windows
  
• Go to View tab.
• Check on "Show hidden files, folders and drives ".
• And uncheck on "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)".
• Click on Apply and
  OK button.

Step 2:

• Now, go back to File Explorer.
  
• Click on This PC, from right hand side panel.
• Double click on C drive.
  
• Right click on $Recycle.Bin
  
• Select Send to option.
• Click on Desktop (create shortcut).

The recycle bin shortcut shall be created on the desktop.

Note: Check on "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" by follow step 1.
