Windows 10: all desktop shortcut open trashcan

Hi,

I have recently bought and installed windows 10 in Lenovo computer since 2 weeks. On last Saturday, I figured when I just start up the windows 10 and double-clicked any shortcuts on desktop, it will open up the trashcan instead of the normal application and I cannot scroll down with the mouse on MS word, excel, chrome, firefox etc... It is a very strange problem. Then I typed in something in the very bottom row in an excel file and I can start scrolling down again. And all shortcuts returned to normal. I have applied windows update several days ago. Can anyone please help provide a solution and what happen? Thanks a lot.

Desktop shortcuts does not open.

Hi Vanessa,

I ran those two commands and the scanhealth reported no problems while the restorehealth said it has succeeded. After that things started working as they should. But then clicked on a shortcut on my desktop to a folder and instead of opening the folder,
all the icons on the desktop squooshed against the left side of the desktop. Once again, clicking on such a shortcut results in the screen blinking and the icons squooshing.

Please, please help.

Hi Tony,

Right click on that icon, and delete.

Click on start for me, and type “chrome” and google chrome should pop up in the list. When it does, right click on it, and “open file location” - a windows explorer windows should open up with the chrome app. Right click on that, and send shortcut to desktop.
See if that one will open.
