  1. All Files/Folders/Apps missing after Windows 10 Update

    Hello all,

So last night, I installed a new Samsung EVO 860 500GB SSD and backed up my pre-update version of Win10 to it. I proceeded to delete some applications on my 128GB SSD where my Win10 OS calls its home to allow for the big 9gb Win10 update (I think it was the Fall Creators Update?)

Long story short, log in this morning and I didn't get any "We could not log you in warnings, so we're putting you into a temp account" notifications. I have troubleshot as much as I can and I am hoping to find a simpler solution than doing a full restore off the backup I created with AOEMI Backupper. My end goal was to transfer my OS completely to the new 500gb SSD and use the 128 for gaming/video editing but this update has paused that swap.

One thing I noticed is ALL of my settings/applications, etc ARE still there, they are just under an older User profile.

When I click This PC>OS SSD>Users I can see my old profile MainSSD, and then I get another one that was created by the Win10 update called MainSSD.MainSSD-PC. The one with the PC suffix is what I keep getting logged into by Win10 whenever I restart, so of course, it is barebones, similar to a fresh install of windows on brand new computer. Where as when I click into the MainSSD folder, I can see all of my files, etc.

What can I do to ensure Windows logs me into that user profile every time as I want to get rid of this temporary profile as it has nothing of importance. All of my video editing settings for example are housed in the MainSSD profile and it is truly a pain to go back and change all export/import/codec's etc.

Really hoping to get some insight.

Also note, I tried using Windows System Restore, but it literally has no System Restore points from yesterday at all, even though I have the MainSSD drive set up to backup every night at 3am, there is nothing even available for me to use.

    Thank you,

    Prog

    :)

  2. Some documents are missing. Why are all folders empty in Windows.old?

After Windows 10 Updates, certain .doc files are missing from my computer. My Windows.old folders are all empty. What has Windows done with my documents?

  3. Problems with Calculator and Alarm apps in windows 10

    Hi Grete,

    Running the generic

    Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} powershell cmdlet

on a Windows 10 November update system would cause 15 Windows Apps to stop working. The cmdlet actually fixes the C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Packages folder, However, while doing so it also deletes a folder
from each of the 15 Windows apps in the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder. And these folders are required for the Apps to launch.

It seems like there is a bug in the November update and hopefully Microsoft will fix it in the next update.

The solution is to replace the deleted /missing folders back into the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder

And your apps should be up and running.

You can copy the missing folders from a working windows 10 system and paste it.

You need to take ownership of the Windows App Folder to let Windows allow you to paste it.

    Listed in this
Blog are the folders that get deleted
and also a walk-through. There is also a zipped file that contains all the respective folders and if you have no reservations, it can be downloaded from there.

All Files/Folders/Apps missing after Windows 10 Update

Even though you've not gotten the "you've been signed in with a temporary profile" error message, it still sounds very much like you need to conduct the same kinds of repairs that are called for when this occurs. Thus, it can't hurt for you to work through Brink's excellent tutorial entitled "Fix You've been signed in with a temporary profile in Windows 10." @Brink: do you have any other suggestions in this case?
    Thanks and HTH,

  5. Ed, when I do the command prompt whoami /user I get MainSSD-PC\MainSSD as the system reply. I wanted to confirm, that means i am logged into the MainSSD-PC profile, and not the primary (pre-update) profile?

    Thank you,

Hello Prog, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

If you like, you could try changing the full path of the ProfileImagePath value using the tutorial Ed posted above to your correct C:\Users\MainSSD profile folder instead of C:\Users\MainSSD.MainSSD.
