Windows 10: All icons gone and cannot open Task Manager

When I turned my PC on it was finishing a windows update, I don't remember doing a windows update. After this I noticed that all icons are just gone Desktop, Explorer, Taskbar. When I try to open the Task Manager or the properties window of a file it does nothing. It does a spin on the mouse and then nothing happens.I tried:RestartingRestarting explorer.exesfc /scannowI would appreciate any help,thanks

task viewer icon(virtual desktop)

I have the same problem. The task viewer icon was there but is now gone. I have gone through the steps you listed but no viewer. Then I created a new profile and the task viewer is there. Now, how do I get the task viewer back in my taskbar in my
original profile??

 

Open Task Manager in Windows 10


In tablet mode, long pressing the windows icon in the task bar will pop up (at release) a menu like that in step 4 above. There the Task Manager is available.

None of the above described ways to open the Task Manager seem to work in tablet mode. Does anyone know? I cannot for my life figure it out, either I'm plain stupid or MS is playing tricks on us...

Try rebuilding the Windows icon cache:

• Close all explorer/folder windows that are currently open;
• Run/Open a new Console window as Administrator;
• Launch "Task Manager" using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, or by running taskmgr.exe;
• In the Process tab, right-click on the explorer.exe process and select End Process.
• In the Command Prompt window, type the commands one by one and press ENTER after each command:
  Code: CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local ATTRIB -H IconCache.db DEL IconCache.db EXIT[/quote]
• Close the Console;
• In Task Manager, click File, select New Task (Run…), type explorer.exe, and click OK.
• Close the Task Manager;
