Windows 10: All media keeps repeating itself

I recently noticed that all video and music was automatically restarting and/or repeating itself. Whether in the Films and TV app, Windows Media player, or on websites accessed through Edge such as Twitter. If you pause the playback it just restarts itself as if you've clicked play/continue. I can play a different a song or video, but then, again, unable to pause it and it automatically restarts if it ends.


I did a full factory reset of the pc, wiping the HD, used AVG to scan my portable HD where I backed up my files, did the Windows 10 updates, but the problem persists. None of the apps have 'repeat' or 'loop' selected. As it affects not only media files on my pc, but also when browsing on Edge, I am at a complete loss as to the cause never mind the solution. I ran the troubleshooter, followed the instructions and restarted, no change.

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Media player. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all
  option on the left panel.
• Run the Windows Media player settings.

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall Windows media player and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Please follow the below steps:

• 
  Type “windows features” into the search box, and then click on Turn Windows features on or off.

  Go down to Media Features –> Windows Media Player
  
• 
  Uncheck the Windows Media Player option. If you are prompted with a dialogue box, press Yes.

  Reboot the computer.
  
• 
  Repeat the same steps to access the Windows Media Player option and this time, Place a check mark on Windows Media Player.

Windows 10 and Windows Media Player

Since the issue still persists, we recommend uninstalling and reinstall Windows Media player and see if it helps. Follow the steps below:

• Open Control Panel.
  
• Click Programs, then click Programs and Features.
  
• Click Turn Windows features on or off in the left pane.
  
• Click the + sign next to Media Features to expand.
  
• Uncheck Windows Media player.
  
• Click OK, then reboot your computer.
  
• To reinstall Windows Media player, repeat the steps in reverse.
  

If the issue still persists, we suggest using other media players to check if the issue also occurs when using other apps.
