Windows 10: All my files got deleted from my D: drive

All my files got deleted from my D: drive. I can still see the shortcuts to some of the paths but it shows it`s empty in the explorer, recovery programs and in the disk management. It`s not bad because I just got this new desktop a week ago but I am afraid that it will happen again. What can I do to prevent this?
