Windows 10: All of a sudden a Non-Deletable folder called "DeliveryOptimization" has appeared, why?

without any changes to any windows / microsoft settings, infact I had not even opened the settings app in some while, a folder right in the middle of my organized folder layout appears, it is called "DeliveryOptimization" and has a sub folder called cache. According to my knowledge all cache folders are temporary yet its been some while, since it's been here, I have updated windows twice during this period and shutdown / restarted my computer many times, yet it never disappeared, worst of all I can not delete it myself manually either, it is messing my organization, what should I do?

DeliveryOptimization folder - why is it there?

Hi,

I noticed a couple of weeks back that a DeliveryOptimization folder appeared in the root of my data drive. I've made no changes to my Windows Update configuration and don't use the Delivery Optimization feature.

I can delete the folder but it reappears with seemingly no pattern.

Why is this folder appearing? Can I remove it permanently?

If not - can I move it to another drive?

Trouble deleting a folder

Thanks for the suggestion but it says "delete folder failed for E:\....." for each folder I try.

Will I be forever stuck with these unnecessary folders? *Oh Well hwell:

 

Unable to delete a folder - Invalid folder name


Suggestion:

1. Run chkdsk x: /r to make sure that there's no HD corruption.
   x: is the drive containing the folder you want to delete.
2. Try to delete the folder again. If still does not work, go to step 3.
3. Download: Download - Linux Mint and create a bootable USB using: Rufus - Create bootable USB
4. Boot up with Linux Mint and try to delete the folder again.
   NOTE: Unlike WinPE. Linux does not have any Windows permission imposed to it so it is easier to delete.
