Windows 10: All photos gone??

My daughter brought her laptop round saying all her photos .jpg's were missing.All folder/file id's are there but when you open them they are all empty.I am quite literate regarding PC's/Windows so I found loads of file i.d.'s but all were empty.Completely stumped.Tried numerous web-search tips-no good.Knowing how important these photos are to my daughter, I bought,for the 1st time,a program to help,Advanced File Recovery,and it found 100's of jpg's.Still,as many as it found there were still as many 'lost'.Any help would REALLY be appreciated not only in finding the files but in how this co

Photo app is gone

@Lenoveo, it's actually named 'Photos' with an 's'. Is it really missing, or is it just the Tile on Start that's gone? Try typing photos in the Cortana/Search box next to Start and see if it finds it. If it does appear in the list you can right-click on it and 'Pin to Start' (or the taskbar). If it doesn't, try Brink's 'App reset' tutorial.

 

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.

 

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.
