Windows 10: All USB ports not working outside of BIOS. Can't unlock computer

All USB ports 2.0 and 3.0 on my computer are no longer working when Windows 10 starts up. With no working keyboard and mouse this meansI can't log in to access device management etc.


How it happened:

• I plugged in an old USB flash drive of mine. Windows wouldn't recognise it, I checked device management and can't remember what it said, but it had the yellow exclamation mark next to it This may or may not be relevant, I'm not sure
  
• I restarted my computer hoping it would fix the flash drive and noted that it didnot say that any updates were going to be installed
• When windows booted up, my USB keyboard and mouse were no longer responding.

What still works:

• I can restart my computer 3 times to get into recovery mode
• While booting up, I can use my keyboard to enter BIOS mode
• In both of these modes all USB devices are working

What I've tried:

• Booting in safe mode
• Uninstall updates. Both latest quality and latest feature uninstall don't work. They just say it ran into a problem and won't be able to uninstall
• Start-up Repair
• Disable driver signature enforcement
• BIOS: Disable Legacy USB Support
• BIOS: Disable Intel xHCI Mode
• BIOS: Checked all USB ports enabled
• BIOS: Disable Fast Boot
• Update the BIOS
• Went and bought a PS/2 keyboard, but it functions exactly the same as a USB one works in BIOS and recovery mode, but not once windows starts up. Though i have never used a PS/2 keyboard beforehand so perhaps windows is not set up to use it or something, I'm not sure

Details:

• Intel Core i7-4770
• Asus Z87-Pro Motherboard. BIOS Version 2103
• Windows 10

I read a bunch of forum threads about a similar problem, but they seem to be about a windows update from 2018 KB4074588 which I doubt could still be an issue.


I haven't tried a system reset or restore as my last image was over a month ago. If possible I'd like to avoid doing so, so i don't have to reinstall programs etc.


Any info on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated, or even just some work around so I can log in and get to device management.

USB Port Oddities


Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:





Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :





The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :





Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:





Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.

No USB ports working on toshiba laptop

Hi guys,

Got an old Toshiba laptop, satellite l500d pslk0a-00r009
Its old and doesn't officially support win10. However I have it installed and everything works fine except USB. All the ports seem completely dead, plugging in a USB mouse I get no light on the mouse. USB flash drives don't work either. This was previously working under win7.

The issue seems to be I don't have "Generic USB hub" in device manager. Have tried to manually install it using add legacy hardware but it wont take. I have several USB root hub and others listed, but not the generic hub.

Here's what I have tried so far:

Uninstall all USB device in device managers and reboot
Confirmed BIOS is latest version
tried both legacy and compatibly USB mode in BIOS
Download and install generic win10 USB drivers
Disable USB power saving mode
Installed toshiba's service center, no updates available
Ran MS troubleshooter/fixit

I think the next step is to give up, but does anyone else have any suggestions?
