Windows 10: alphabetical index

We have client lists that are extensive. I regularly have to go into differing folders daily.Is there a way to have an indexing bar on side similar to that of phone contact apps?

How to activate alphabet index on Lumia 520

 

Deactivate Alphabetical App Grouping List / Index (45+ apps threshold)

I have a Lumia 820, and I was forced to perform a hard rest after discovering my “Internet Sharing” functionally wasn’t included in the Settings or accessible by the OS. Unfortunately
I discovered this was after customizing, installing and tweaking all of my phone's settings…. Fortunately
the phone’s “app list + settings” were backed-up so I was able to partially restore the phone to its previous condition, including the formerly missing “Internet Sharing” functionality.



Unfortunately, the restore process also reloaded ATT’s apps (which I had previously removed prior to the back-up) and now the phone had 45+ apps. The OS then automatically introduced an Alphabetical App Grouping List / Index that was based on this 45+ app
threshold.



I then uninstalled all of the unnecessary apps that ATT mandates, even on restored phones, including some additional personal apps to achieve a minimum of about 25 apps. However, the phone will not remove the Alphabetical App Grouping List / Index requirement….
this is a little ridiculous since the additional tiles for each Letter separating each group of apps now doubles the amount of vertical space that I have to scroll through from top to bottom.

Now, if I had 100+ apps on my phone, I could really see the benefit of the Alphabetical App Grouping List / Index but it should really be an option (perhaps a long term goal Microsoft should consider). Personally, I have never exceeded 50 apps and routinely
stay between 35-45 apps… with so few apps this is a really annoying feature that I cant disable once its been activated.



I’m really hoping someone knows how to revoke the threshold requirement established by the OS.
Please help.

How to remove Alphabet Index

You need to reset the phone (Settings, About, Reset) to remove the alphabet index. Note that the reset will erase all user added data.
