  1. Already installed Windows 10 on SSD and 100% operative, set up BIOS to boot from this disk...

    Please I need your help.

Prior to any change I've made, I have an SSD Sandisk Ultra II with a Windows 10 100% operative. I've added a new HDD as a secondary and reordered boot priority.

I am trying to boot first from this SSD in a Strix Z270H motherboard, however it keeps returning to BIOS Setup.

SSD was recognized without problems In Boot options and I have placed it first in Boot Priority settings.

    BIOS Setup:

    SATA Mode Selection -> AHCI

    Launch CSM -> Disabled

The rest of available options -> Default settings.

Could you please tell me how to configure it in order to reach Windows again without loosing data stored?

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

  2. Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu.

    Hi Matthew,

There are several possible reasons as to why your computer is not detecting an SSD drive. This could be caused by incorrect BIOS settings or device drivers that need to be updated. Since you already tried the suggestion of Andre Da Costa and this allowed
your computer to detect the SSD already, we would like to further clarify your concern by asking the questions below:

    • If you were already able to install Windows on the SSD, have you already attempted to change the boot order in the BIOS menu?
    • Which version of Windows did you install on the SSD?
    • What other troubleshooting steps have you attempted?

We look forward to your response to our queries.

  3. HDD1 is set in BIOS for booting only but the operating system loads from SSD (which is not set for booting)

I have in my system 3 storage devices: 1 x SSD (port 0), 1 x HDD1 (port 1), 1 x HDD2 (port 2). All disks were partitioned before installing Windows 10 1909. Initially in the system were the HDD's, one of them having installed Windows 10. A month ago I added
the SSD (SATA) and I installed on it Windows 10. After installing W10 on the SSD at every boot of the system I got the menu which asked me to choose between booting from SSD or HDD1. I got rid off it deleting in System Configuration (msconfig) Boot section
the HDD drive. It doesn't ask anything now.

Note: Because the partitions were already allocated as space before installing Windows there are no System Reserved Partitions created. This is a normal behavior, only when Windows 10 allocates the space in installation process we get created a new partition
    around 580 MB.

Now here is the issue I found. Having two drives with Windows 10 installed I wanted to check if I can boot the sytem from HDD1 as before. I went into BIOS and I set booting only from HDD1 then restarted the system. System restarts but loads the operating
system stored on the SSD not from the HDD1. Investigating the issue I found the SSD has no /Boot, /Recovery, bootmgr, BOOTNXT and BOOTSECT.BAK into the root, but the HDD1 has. Bellow there is a comparison between the devices (SSD on the left).

How is it possible to set as boot device in BIOS the HDD1 which has all boot files but loading the operating system from the SSD which hasn't the boot files?

For sure if I unplug the HDD1 the system won't boot into Windows. Probably the SSD MBR points to HDD1 file system. In order to fix this probably I should fix the MBR's for both drives. I can do that but I need some advised opinions.

With this setup my Samsung 860 EVO 500 GB did not freeze daily as usual in a time range of 5 - 60 minute. It is still alive for more than 2 days running. Maybe it is just a coincidence. Who knows ...

Cannot boot from SSD, get sent back to BIOS

I have recently got a new SSD for my desktop and wanted to do a fresh install of windows and replace my current HDD, giving me a fresh slate. I go through the standard windows installation with a USB, and unplug the USB after windows has been installed onto
the SSD, the computer will then restart and I get put back into the BIOS. My issue is that once i do this, every-time, no matter what I do when i try to boot to the SSD I get sent back to the BIOS, here is a list of what I've tried:

    • Changing boot order
    • unplugging every other SATA cable except for the one connected to the SSD
    • plugging the SSD SATA cable into the lowest number SATA port on my motherboard
    • Plugging in the SSD SATA cable into the port used by my disk drive
    • Enabling and disabling safe boot in the BIOS
    • enabling and disabling CSM in the BIOS
    • Setting the boot CSM to "UEFI only" (does not recognize the SSD anymore)
    • Installing windows from the USB with the SSD being the only drive attached
    • using the same SATA port as my unplugged HDD for my SSD

When in the BIOS the SSD is the only possible boot device recognized by the motherboard, the BIOS does recognize the SSD as a bootable drive. I've checked the SSD when booting from my HDD and all the necessary windows files seem to be there. When attempting
to boot i get a black screen with a single flashing white line in the top left, then it proceeds into the BIOS.

I have no idea what's wrong and I have found nothing that can fix it. if it's necessary here is my hardware:

    ASUS Z97-A

    Intel I5-4670K

    NVIDIA GeForce 1070

    8 GB RAM

A sound card (if that's relevant)

    Storage:

    HDD: Seagate 1TB

SSD: WD 1TB SSD "3D NAND" (New Drive)
