Windows 10: Always Encrypted now generally available in Azure SQL Database

Today we are announcing the general availability of Always Encrypted in Azure SQL Database.

Always Encrypted is an industry-first solution offering unparalleled data security against breaches involving the theft of critical data such as social security or credit card numbers. For example, an admitting nurse may have a business need to access a patient’s unencrypted social security number, but that data does not need to be visible anywhere else in the system. With Always Encrypted, patients’ social security numbers are stored encrypted in the database at all times even during query processing, allowing decryption at the point of use by authorized staff or applications that need to process that data.

Always Encrypted is simple to use, transparent, and ready to protect your data. Client drivers have been enhanced to work in conjunction with the database engine to decrypt and encrypt data at the point of use, requiring only minimal modifications to your applications. Encryption keys are managed outside of the database for maximum safety and separation of duties. Only authorized users with access to the encryption keys can see unencrypted data while using your applications.

Always Encrypted in Azure SQL Database

By ensuring the encrypted data and its corresponding keys are never revealed in plaintext to the database system, Always Encrypted allows you to confidently store your sensitive information in Azure SQL Database. You can also use Always Encrypted to restrict high privilege users in your own organization, for example DBAs managing your Azure-hosted databases, from accessing sensitive data, to further prevent information disclosure.

Always Encrypted is currently supported in .NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server and will be supported in JDBC and ODBC soon.

Then the Access Database Engine 2010 Service Pack 1 from

Then the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components from

Download 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components from Official Microsoft Download Center

The load Azure SDK for .NET 2.8 from
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/dotnet-sdk-28/?WT.mc_id=DOTNET_SDK_28

Get an Office 365 account to install Office 2016 or purchase complete from Windows Store to get Access 2016

Then Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) v6.0 for Access to SQL Azure from

Download Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant v6.0 for Access from Official Microsoft Download Center

Create a new SQL Azure database log into you free Azure account
https://manage.windowsazure.com

Check for the correct server name add your IP address to the server firewall

Run the SSMA select SQL Azure, enter your server name, username and password

Your Access 2010/2016 database is now transferred to SQL Azure database.

Summary

Windows 10 does NOT have any of these loaded so any missing files comes up with a COM error,

which many wrongly interpret as an Edge Browser error, saying the browser has frozen.

Windows 10 DOES NOT have a problem with Azure, AAD,SQL Azure, Azure IoT.

Its all about setting up your machine and remember your company policy many not permit these functions,

NOT Microsoft.
