Windows 10: Am I able to use an activation key on the same computer after wiping the data?

I want to remove all of the data on my computer and was wondering if I could use the activation key again? I am getting a new one and want to give my current one to my son?

To assist you better, we would like to confirm if Windows 10 is activated before you wiped your computer.

Meanwhile, we suggest that you run the Activation troubleshooter. To do this, follow these steps:

• Go to Settings.
  
• Select Update & security.
  
• On the left pane, choose Activation.
  
• Click Troubleshoot.

For secure wipe I'll make it optional. I don't want to make the wipe key(s) the same for everyone, so you will have to chose a password and PIN for wipe the same as you would for general access to the data.
Remember, if you accidentally type in your wipe key(s) instead of your access key(s), it's bye bye data. *Big Grin

 

Wiping computer

Your report suggests that your installation has suffered some damage which prevents Windows from doing a reset. In such stubborn cases I would do this:

1. Create a new media installation disk:
   
   Windows 10 herunterladen
2. Run setup.exe on this disk.

It would wipe everything, including your data and all applications.
