Windows Security "Sign In" prompt repeats every 25-30 minutes

EDIT: Problem solved. TL;DR is, university ethernet setup caused the issue, and the fix was resetting network settings, going through the university-specified authentication steps and signing in with the right credentials.

My personal laptop, running Microsoft Windows 10 Home version 10.0.19044 has starting showing a Windows Security prompt every 25-30 minutes.





I have taken the following steps:

1) Checked which process is causing the issue.




it less than helpfully lists "Windows Explorer". Using the process explorer program gives no usefull information, beyond stating all the processes windows explorer is responsible for. If anyone has any idea how to select the "Windows Security" prompt specifically, suggestions are welcome. Using the "sniper scope" again simply selects "explorer.exe", so it seems that my file explorer is somehow asking for a sign-in.

2) Disabled Microsoft Exchange shared Calendar improvements and ensured that "always prompt for login credentials" is off (in Outlook)

3) Reset all my Network settings (interestingly, the pop-up occured immediately after the full network reset, then went back to its "30 minutes after start-up, and 30 minute intervals after that"), so I'm suspecting something ethernet/network related

4) Removed all outlook-related credentials from windows credential manager.

 

windows will shut down in less than a minute

I'm referring only to fast shutdown tweaks under Step 13 of the linked tutorial.

Note 13. Speed Up Windows Shut Down Time You can set and adjust the AutoEndTasks, HungAppTimeout, WaitToKillAppTimeout, and/or WaitToKillServiceTimeout values for how long Windows waits for hung programs and other programs to save data and close before shutting down. I'm not suggesting anything else relating to fast startup or whatever. Those Step 13 tweaks don't affect reboot or updates. Example: Improve startup & shutdown using registry settings
