  1. Amazon Basics USB 3.0 to SATA III Enclosure - Has built in sleep mode?

I hope this is the right place to post this - here is a link to the item I purchased: ( i hope I can share this link, it's not an affiliate link or anything)

    https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...rnal+3.5+drive

I've checked all the settings in device manager (the old version of device manager) and also Power Options and have disabled any and all types of power saving featured for this drive.

but if i don't access the drive for 5-10 minutes, I have to wait for it to spin up (i know it is spinning up because if the room is quiet, I can hear it initializing.

Is there anyway I can leave it to where is;s running all the time.

After reading the user reviews/questions, I believe this drive has its own built in power saving mechanism which is causing it to go into sleep mode. This is the first external HDD enclosure I have purchased.

If you have any suggestions of a different HDD external enclosure (3.5" that supports SATA III and doesn't have its own built in sleep mode) then welcome those suggestions to. If what you recommend is under $50, that is even better!

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

Convert IDE enclosure to take a sata 3.5 HDD.

    Thanks for your reply Steve.

Have placed an order with Amazon for a SATA 3.5" HDD enclosure as you suggested.

    • Might have occurred due to third party application conflicts.

Amazon Basics USB 3.0 to SATA III Enclosure - Has built in sleep mode?

Can't access drives in external USB 3 enclosures

Ever since I switched over to my new Windows 10 PC, I haven't been able to access my external USB 3.0 enclosures. They are all 4-disk enclosures by IcyDock (Black Vortex). On my old Windows 7 PC, all I had to do was turn it on and all 4 drives were detected via USB 3. Now on the new PC none of the drives are detected. I checked their site and they don't list any drivers so I don't think that's the problem. Any idea what I can do? I also have a couple older e-SATA external 4-disc enclosures and those are detected fine through my e-SATA card. So it's an issue with the USB 3.0 enclosures. Also, I have a Mediasonic brand 4-disc USB 2.0 enclosure and that works fine - all drives are detected. So it's just the USB 3.0 enclosures by IcyDock that aren't being recognized.
