Windows 10: AMD Adaptive Sleep Service?

I noticed recently after leaving my PC unattended for 30 mins the monitor had turned off but it turned on as soon as I hit the space bar. The Power Settings have the monitor set to never turn off and the hardware sleep function on the monitor is turned off - so it's a mystery why the monitor went to sleep.

I spotted that recent AMD graphics drivers install the AMD Adaptive Sleep Service which is set to Automatic (Delayed Start). I'm wondering if this is the reason the monitor goes to sleep and whether I should just disable the service? What functionality does this service provide and will there be problems if I disable it?

Windows 10 shuts down after being in sleep mode overnight

Well it was definetly the AMD driver updates that installed "Adaptive sleep Services" that was causing it for me .. two nights and no shut down .

 

I disable all AMD services including this one, no ill side effects, as far as I can tell.
There is hardly any info on it as always, so we can only guess, what it does.

There is a post on other forum, where a computer was shutting down instead of sleeping and it was solved by disabling it, so give it a try and you will see. Those services usually do, what they presume is the best, not what a user wants.

 

I've stopped it with no ill effects. There is also the AMD External Events Utility. Did you also disable that with no problems?

 

AMD External Events Utility is basically an error reporting service. If your driver does not crash, you do not need it.

Summarizes that it affects laptops, even though it got on my desktop, guess the safest bet is to enable it if you're using a laptop, and disable if you're on a desktop.
