Windows 10: AMD Crimson files

Just updated to the new AMD Crimson driver - replacing catalyst. The installation left an AMD folder in my C:\ folder which is on an SSD drive. This appears to be the installation files, but I am no expert. Is it safe to delete it (or at least move it off the SSD drive and onto a data drive)?

Well from reading above, your Rwadon driver is at fault:

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\AMD\CNext\CNext\RadeonSettings.exe

From the ATI forum, installing the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.1 Hotfix Driver fixes this issue -

Hey, I have a HD 7670M. Is it worth upgrading to the AMD Crimson?

 

Sorry - I can't answer that one - under compatibility it states "AMD Radeon™ HD 7700+ Series" so not sure if it would work.

TBH I rarely used the front end on Catalyst. I do keep drivers up to date, hence the move to this one.

I have had only one folder remaining after any install so I wondered about the fact that two were in place. This link below has a post describing the purpose and removing. At this time I moved them to another storage drive versus just deleting.
It appears that this install could be directed to some other drive than in C:\

To answer the original question, yes it is safe to delete as once you have installed the driver it just sits there taking up space. That and if you don't delete it the next time you update you will still have the AMD folder, but now it will have the install files for both the old and new in it (and they can add up in a hurry)

As far as moving it to another drive, better to save the downloaded install file (on another drive)as it is compressed and takes up less space. The compressed download for Crimson is around 230 MB, where the uncompressed install files is 560 MB.
