AMD HD5850 graphics BSOD after update to Win 10 ver 1511 from Win 7

I have a Gateway FX6831 desktop (my wife's not the computer listed under my specs) with a Intel I7-860 cpu, a Intel SSD and running Windows 7 64 bit OEM. All Win 7 updates are installed. I have a AMD Radeon HD 5850 graphcis card with driver 15.200.1062.1004 installed. The system BIOS is P01-B1. No update is available. The monitor is an ACER H2233H at 1920 X 1080 resolution. Everything works great.

My problem: When I update to Win 10 ver 1511 the graphics driver reverts to the MS std VGA driver. And I get BSOD after a few minutes. The message is "System_Threat_Exception_Not handled" or "System_service_Exception" error code "ATIKMPag.sys_Exception". I have booted into SAFE mode a downloaded the latest AMD HD 5850 driver and it won't install properly and get message to contact AMD support. The computer is 4 years old so I doubt AMD will offer free support. As a result I have a poor resolution screen using the MS VGA driver and a unstable system. I have rolled back to Win 7 but would still like to upgrade to Win 10. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

    :)

  2. Window Automatic Update for Win 10, Ver 1607 on Win 10, Ver 1511

Since Feb of this year there have been 12 successful automatic updates on this HP PC. There have also been 10 unsuccessful updates. The unsuccessful updates were for Win 10, Ver 1607 and non of the successful updates for Ver 1607. The PC originally
had Win 7 and was upgraded to Win 10 Home in July of 2016. In Nov of 2017, Microsoft Tech uninstalled the Win 10 Home and installed Win 10 Prof. The current build is Win 10, Ver 1511, 10586.839. Are these Ver 1607 updates for this computer? Why are they
    all failing?
