Windows 10: AMD Radeon 5xxx and Windows 10 Pro. Video playback black screen.

I updated to Win 10 Pro 64 just after christmas, lets just say it was not problem free but It worked. Everything was great and I am impressed -

except for Video playback that is. I get sound but no picture.

Tried several media players but no joy. Tried with the W10 driver but it did not recognise screen.

Graphics are Radeon HD 5xxx series running 15.201.1151.1008-151104a-296217E.
Processor Core I5 M430 @2.27
Motherboard Sony C603X24W

Can anybody enlighten me ?

Windows Universal Apps Video Playback Issue after upgrading

That's not what I meant. What I meant was when I try to play a video from a Windows Store App (eg. Film&TV, News) I can hear audio but the video window is black.

I did some research and discovered that it's a problem with my AMD driver.

I had a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 on Windows 7.

After Windows 10 upgrade, Windows installed AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 series. If I disable the driver via device manager, the video plays, and as soon as I enable it, a black video screen with audio audible.

 

AMD Switchable Graphics in Windows 10: no HDMI + black screen in games

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 with AMD/Intel switchable graphics: ATI Mobility 5650 + Intel HD Graphics (Gen 1).

Since my upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10:

• HDMI doesn't work. When I insert a device, nothing happens. VGA is working fine.
• certain video games show a black screen, but do have sound. I have tested this on
  Dishonered and Portal 2 (black screen with mouse cursor), but I found people having this problem with other games too.

This issue seems to occur to people who have 1st generation Intel HD graphics + ATI Mobility 5xxx/AMD 6xxxm.

My video drivers are fully up to date according to the AMD Catalyst Control Center, and Windows 10 is also fully updated.

No enlightenment available here, but...

As it's a laptop, it's best to get the drivers from Sony. Unfortunately, the latest ones I see at their support site appear to be from 2010. I hope that the drivers you have already are adequate.

Was the VLC video player among those that you tried? I mention that one because it doesn't seem to require external codecs.
