There is no chipset update file for the N71JQ laptop on the ASUS support pages .. not for AFAIK.

Use Aida64 or another utility to find out which chipset it is and download the driver directly from Intel/AMD. For very new Intel chipsets use latest Intel driver. For a little older, like my H61, use the previous version (see Release notes for chipsets supported).

AMD Radeon Mobility 5xxx and Windows 10 just NOT working with me !

Hello, guys! I am in trouble, just as many of you here!
I have upgraded to W10 and now all of a sudden my LG monitor doesnt cant see my laptop. I have HP Envy 14 and connect to monitor via MD-port. I attach my Surface pro3(on W10 latest update), Macbook air and all these devices work just fine. But my good old HP just doesn't. I have gone through all the steps that were previously advised here (go to amd.com-find your driver-install it) but that doesn't seem to work. I have also tried to install W7 drivers, and it too didn't lead to any results. HDMI connection to TV also doesn't work. It is just frustrating. Any ideas?*Mad

"Classic case of trouble", as was a Greek comedian's catch phrase in a very funny movie where we was a technician good-for-nothing. I mean that these symptoms are very familiar and suggest that you have the Microsoft generic display driver installed instead of the official AMD Suite.

Go at AMD's download site and then click on Drivers + Support -> Drivers + Download Center. Scroll down to the Manually Select Your Driver section and select
    Step 1=Notebook Graphics
    Step 2=Radeon HD series
    Step 3=Mobility Radeon HD series
Step 4=Windows 10 64-bit (or 32-bit, which one you have)
Step 5, click on Display Results button

Download both the AMD Catalyst 15.7.1 Suite and the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta. I would uninstall any AMD related software, restart and then try the release version (Catalyst) first. If this doesn't work properly, I would then uninstall it, restart and try the Crimson. One of them should work. Just remember to always run it as Administrator (right-click and Run as Administrator), just in case. I would also temporarily disable the antivirus, just in case.

    I hope that helps.

For ASUS laptops the 15.7.1 drivers are not better than any other previous version ... If you have an "old" Radeon Mobility card, you're just screwed, end of story ...

Well, installing Crimson Edition solved the problem. At least my monitor is showing something now*Biggrin But it flickers a bit and now I am curious whether that is because of a laptop graphic card or monitor itself

For the flicker, first check if the cable is securely connected to both ends or try replacing it. You can also go to AMD Control Panel and see if you can change the refresh rate, but usually this function is not available for DVI or HDMI connections. Also check your monitor/TV settings if something is affecting the picture stability. Good that it worked for you.

Yes, it worked for me in the sense that I have delivered the picture to monitor. Now it flickers and its really unusable. The cable works just fine (minidisplayport to vga adaptor + vga cable) with other my devices like SP3 or MBA, so the problem is still in graphic card or in the mdp nest itself, which is very improbable I think. I can not see any settings to adjust to play around though

What output has your graphics card and what inputs has your monitor? It would be better if you could avoid any adaptors and connect just a cable. If your monitor has only VGA input, it's better to use a DVI-to-VGA adaptor and get the output from DVI or even better, use a VGA cable directly connected to the graphics card, if it has VGA output as well. If your monitor has DVI or HDMI, the best is to use a DVI cable directly from the DVI output or a DVI-HDMI cable from the HDMI output (or a cable plus adapter). If your monitor has HDMI you can use an HDMI cable directly or a DVI-HDMI cable from DVI output (or cable plus adapter). The picture quality in either digital connection should not be different from that of a Display Port to Display Port connection. Mixing digital to analog conversion and vice versa is prone to problems. I suspect the flicker you see is because of bad conversion (wrong signal timing on the analog part). Try to avoid any signal conversion from analog to digital and vice versa.

Haha, and this is exactly what I am doing (converting digital to analogue) and this is so wrooooong. My laptop has MDP, HDMI ports, where LG monitor has VGA and DVI ports. So, as far as I understood, the best bet would be on connecting MDP to DVI, as they are both digital? am I right?

Laptop has HDMI, monitor has DVI. HDMI can be connected to DVI directly using an HDMI male to DVI male cable, no conversion is involved, so no picture degradation. Alternatively you can connect a DVI-D male/male cable to a DVI female, HDMI male adapter, or an HDMI male/male cable to an HDMI female, DVI male adapter.

Only drawback: you get the picture, not sound, so you have to use your notebook's speakers or connect external ones.

    Case closed! *Cool

Now this is escalading abnormally. I have thought that I have figured out the problem for now. But until I fired up basic game like CS 1.6, and what I realized was that I was having terrible performance. CS 1.6 is like minecraft counter-strike and I am having like 20fps with AMD HD 5000!!! I thought that I was using Intel's graphics, so I played around and couldn't switch permanently to AMD. In fact, I even tried to disable Intel card from Device manager, as a result, game did not launch at all (error). So I concluded that AMD is not working at all. How can I switch permanently to AMD card? any ideas?

I am not sure, as I don't have a notebook with hybrid graphics, but I suspect that Intel is used for everything and AMD is used only in 3D graphics. This should be controlled from either Intel Graphics Properties or AMD Control Panel. Some games need files from DirectX 9.0c to work properly, never mind running on Windows Vista or higher (DirectX 10 or higher). If this is the case you must also install latest DirectX 9.0c Runtime (June 2010). After having installed that, have a look at the game advanced graphics settings. Make sure you run the game in Direct3D mode (to use AMD) and if possible select the AMD graphics adapter (if you have the choice). If you run it at OpenGL mode (if applicable for that game) it could be done from Intel, not AMD. I am not familiar with that game, so I cannot tell you exactly what to do. Anyone else? Maybe you should post at the Games forum.

    Sorry for the bump here.

Same issue for me - funny enough, same laptop, too. I was just forced to throw 10 on my Envy 14 - annoying.

I've used this Samsung monitor for years, hooked up via HDMI -- and now, upon 10's install, it doesn't recognize it.

I've tried going to AMD's site - did the Catalyst Suite update, nothing. Then Crimson (currently). Still nothing.

How do I get my laptop to recognize my "external" monitor?
