Anniversary update - 3 times failed - what to do with?

    Hi!

    I have currently Windows 10.10586.545 Pro x64.
I received not Windows Anniversary Update by Windows Update yet, I downloaded it from Microsoft.
First time I tried to update, all was working correctly, but after reboot and before login reports Error occured, not successful.
2nd time I tried to create install DVD with 1607 and started it from Windows directly - Windows was updated, and success message. When I look at winver - I saw Windows 10 was not updated and also no one new function.
3rd time I did bootable USB, started again from Windows, working and login all was looking success - not true, after login and loading basic services report Windows updated not successful...

What I have to do? Have I begin update after computer start to boot into USB? Can I loose any data? This way is creating new installation.

    Thank you for each help.

Windows 10 Anniversary update error code 0x80004005

I have tried to download and install the Windows 10 Anniversary update 5 times. Tried 3 times with windows update and 2 times with the windows update assistant from the Microsoft site. Windows update failed 3 times and the update assistant failed twice
    with error code 0x80004005.

I am running Windows 10 Home version 1511 on a 64 bit machine with an i7 skylake processor and 16 GB of RAM. Does anyone have any clue as to what to do?

Always do a backup first before doing an update. I'm sure you are aware of that, but just to reiterate.

Once you have that and an upgrade fails - do a clean install and transfer the backed-up data to the new install from the mounted image...after re-installing apps. of course.

    No other choice?
So upgrade to 1607 is not possible by other way?

Of course it's possible, many have done it, just the chances of success are diminished...This version has issues with an upgrade (which even in the bestest of best circumstances is tricky)

Ok, have you any idea how?
Really when was Windows 10 released, I was happy that I'll must not to reinstall new OS always, my instalation and personalization was 4 days long, I do rather all possible than do it again...

Anniversary update - 3 times failed - what to do with?

I don't mean to be negative, but I - like apparently quite a few other people - have given up on trying to install the Anniversary Update. I've gone so far as to disable the Windows Update service, because I don't want the update to try to automatically install itself.

Different people have had different kinds of problems with the update. It seems that it is virtually impossible to determine what the cause of a particular problem is - in my case I ended up with either an unbootable system or a revert to my previous/current build. This happened many times. I got lots of advice from some pretty knowledgeable people here - but none of it helped. My posting on the Microsoft Answers site yielded no useful help either. So I'm just waiting for some other/better/newer update/solution.

Download iso from here, double click and run setup.exe.

    Windows 10

Regulars here KNOW this is best way to upgrade.

  11. I've read from some folks that what makes the difference in having the AU work is having the Internet connection disabled at the time of running the update. This means unplugging a wired connection or disabling a WiFi connection.

I did that on three different machines, one of which failed previously using all other attempts, and all three then updated without problems.

That's interesting Mark - thanks. Needless to say it makes no sense at all, but I'll add it to my list of things to try.

A Clean Install from the ISO media will always work - because this wipes your boot drive and treats it like a brand new drive. But this also means you have to completely re-install all your software and re-do all your applications settings. In my case I'd rather wait for/hope for some fix to the upgrade process.
