    Anniversary Update Report

I've been delaying updating my desktop PCs to the Anniversary Update (AU) due to previous reports on the forum of missing drives or drives appearing in RAW format. I haven't noticed any recent reports of this issue so I went ahead and upgraded my father's PC two days ago.

I left the internal drives connected but disconnected the external USB drive I use for backups and checked I had no active partitions apart from the main system drive. I also disabled fast boot and secure boot in the BIOS and paused Kaspersky anti-virus. I ran chkdsk before the update and sfc /scannow which was clear apart from the known bug in reporting an opencl.dll error . I updated using the ISO file from here choosing English International for the UK https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowssfx /10ISO/ I mounted the ISO, ran setup.exe and chose to install updates and keep all settings (like a repair install).

There were no problems during the installation and Windows 10 updated in about 20 minutes on the SSD based PC.

There were four problem after the upgrade:

    • Numlock key disabled at startup. Solved by:
      • Turn off fast start-up (if enabled)
      • Run REGEDIT and go to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard
      • Change the value of InitialKeyboardIndicators to 2147483650
      • Reboot & turn on fast start up (if required).
    • User text sizes set to defaults. I had to reset settings for all users in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display
    • I have a serious issue in being unable to configure OneDrive in one user account - see OneDrive Problem After Anniversary Upgrade. I suspect this is a user profile problem and I'll need to create a new profile and copy across data to the new profile using this procedure for a PC in a Workgroup https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...#1TC=windows-7
    • I tried creating a new user account but it signs out as soon as I enter the correct password. This was due to a corrupted Default User profile - see post 8 at Corrupt NTUSER.DAT file in Default Folder
Overall, I only give Microsoft 2/10 for their software engineering efforts. None of the above issues should have been encountered on a PC which I verified to be correctly configured before upgrading.

    :)

How to disable Windows is checking for the solution to the problem

This no longer appears to work as of the anniversary update. Windows Error Reporting stays on regardless of the presence of the DWORD value.

    Anniversary Update Report

I've been holding off installing the AU on my own desktop PC since my current Windows installation started life as Windows 8 Pro and I have 4 drives which may have been subject to the missing drives / RAW format bug. I was also put off by my experience in upgrading my father's PC as reported in post 1 above.

I just let Windows Update upgrade my desktop PC to v1607 since it appears v1511 will no longer receive updates. I'm surprised to report I had zero problems! *Smile

Maybe using Windows Update is more reliable than using an ISO file for older installations?

An .iso downloaded from MS doesn't have as many updates as when you just update normally so some bugs may still exist. There were few updates after 1607 came out.
